Chapter 164
Lorik straightened up, his expression hardening. “What? No. I would never.”
I stepped forward, standing next to Lorik. “Andrew, I don’t know what you’re suggesting, but Lorik had nothing to do with this,” I said, my tone firm. In fact, he’s been working tirelessly to organize a
search and rescue team.”
Andrew’s expression didn’t soften immediately, but he sighed, rubbing his temple. “I’ll deal with this later,” he muttered. Tve got to leave for now.”
eccily sniffed softly beside him, her cheeks streaked with carefully placed tears. Tll stay here,” she said, her voice trembling. “I can’t leave while Derrick is missing.”
Andrew gave her a weary nod, placing his hand on her shoulder in a gesture that was almost mechanical. “I’ll be back soon,” he said to her. Then, he turned to Lorik again, his tone a bit colder. “We’re not done talking.” Without waiting for a response, he turned on his heel and left,
disappearing into the night.
The moment Andrew was out of sight, Ceccily’s entire demeanor changed. Her previously soft, vulnerable face turned pale with anger. She spun on Lorik, her movements sharp and aggressive. “You!” she spat, rushing up to him and grabbing the lapels of his shirt. “You killed him, didn’t you? Derrick’s dead because of you!”
Her voice was full of venom, her eyes wild with hatred. Lorik’s eyes narrowed. He didn’t flinch, but his jaw tightened. “Let go of me,” he warned, grabbing her wrist and yanking her hand away from his shirt. “Don’t you dare frame me for this, Ceccily. If I wanted to mess with Derrick, I wouldn’t drag other people into it. And I certainly wouldn’t send a search and rescue team to find him.”
But Ceccily wasn’t listening. Her grief and anger had overtaken any semblance of reason. Her chest
heaved as she glared at Lorik, eyes blaze always hated Derrick. You wanted him gone.
and now you’ve got your wish.”
Before Lorik could respond, Ceccily lunged forward, trying to shove him toward the wreckage. “You should’ve been the one caught in that explosion, not him!”
I reacted quickly, stepping between them and grabbing Ceccily’s arm. “Stop it!” I ordered, my voice sharp. This isn’t going to help anyone.”
Just then, I noticed several reporters had arrived at the scene. Cameras flashed as they filmed us. eager for a dramatic story. This was the last thing we needed–a public spectacle.

“Ceccily, enough,” I said, lowering my voice but keeping it firm. “You’re angry, I get it, but we need to stay calm. The search and rescue team is still working”
At that moment, one of the rescuers came over, his face serious but not grim. “We found him,” he said. “Derrick is alive. He was in the convenience store buying something when the explosion happened. He’s got some minor injuries but needs to go to the hospital for a checkup.
The news hit Ceccily like a wave. Her knees buckled slightly, and she let out a gasp of relief. “He’s… alive?” Her face lit up with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. She pressed her hands to her face and burst into tears, this time genuine. “Oh, thank God.”
I allowed myself a sigh of relief as well, my heart rate finally slowing down. The search and rescue team from Silvermoon found him.” I said softly, trying to convey that we had helped without Sabbing it in her face.
Ceccily, however, was quick to recover her composure, though her sneer returned just as quickly. “You and Lorik are just putting on a show, aren’t you? This whole thing is a performance,” she snapped. “Besides, Lorik is Derrick’s brother. It’s the least he could do.”
Before I could respond, Lorik moved toward the paramedics, wanting to speak with the doctor about Derrick’s condition. That left me alone with Ceccily in the corridor, and the atmosphere
between us was thick with tension.
To my surprise, Ceccily’s expression shifted again, her sharp features softening. She turned to me, a strange warmth in her eyes as she took my hand. Her sudden change caught me off guard.
“You know,” she began, her voice syrupy sweet, “I’ve always admired you. You’re so beautiful, famous, and talented. And you have such a wonderful personality.” Her words flowed easily, like she had rehearsed them, and yet, they felt out of place.
I raised an eyebrow, completely thrown off by her sudden flattery. Just minutes ago, she had been. accusing Lorik of murder. Now, she was praising me as if we were old friends. “Thank you?” I said, slowly, unsure of how to respond.
But then, she dropped the bombshell that left me stunned.
“I heard that you and Lorik went to file for divorce,” Ceccily said, her tone casual but with a hint of something darker. “It’s no secret that your relationship is… strained. After all, even I know that you once filed for divorce, right? I’m just saying, maybe it’s time to think about Derrick’s future.”
