Chapter 169
His words hung In the air, heavy with meaning. I love you.
The same words I had longed to hear from him for so long, but now, they felt hollow, too late. My eyes filled with tears.
“You don’t know what love is, Lorek,” I whispered, turning to grab my bag. “If you loved me, you wouldn’t have hurt me like you did. You wouldn’t have sacrificed me for her, or left me behind when I needed you the most. I was kidnapped, and you were making love to another woman.”
ach wound he inflicted was carved into my heart like scars.
He stepped forward again, grabbing my wrist. His touch was firm but gentle, and his voice broke as he spoke. “Shirley, please. I know I’ve made mistakes, but nothing happened between Lorcia and
- me. She lied. I was confused, but I came for you. I always come for you.”
I pulled my hand away, shaking my head. “It doesn’t matter anymore. Your choices hurt me, Lorek They broke me. And no matter how much you say you love me now, it won’t change that”
As I turned to leave, Lorek’s grip tightened. He pulled me back into his arms, holding me so tightly that I could feel his heartbeat pounding against my chest. His voice was low, pleading, Please, let
me make it up to you. I’ll do anything, anything to fix this.”
I struggled, but he didn’t let go.
Then, I felt something cold pressed into my hand. I looked down to see the hilt of a silver saber, its edge gleaming in the dim light.
“This is my defense saber,” Lorek whispered, his voice trembling. Take it. Stab me with it. Hurt me

I hurt you. Make me pay for the pain I caused you.”
I glanced at Lorek in disbelief, my fingers trembling slightly. “Are you crazy?” I whispered, watching
the knife in his hand glint under the low light.
He let out a bitter laugh, the sound heavy with resignation. His grip on the blade never wavered. “I mean it,” he said softly, his voice raw with emotion. “I would do it willingly, Shelly, if it means you’d
stay with me–if it means you’d be happy.”
His words were suffocating. I tugged against his arm, but his hold was unyielding. Frustration gnawed at me, and with an impatient huff, I snatched the saber from his hand. My heart raced as I quickly flipped the blade in my grip, intending to give him a shove with the handle. It was a childish

move, one that wouldn’t harm him, but would at least give me enough space to break free.
But then something stopped me. **He didn’t even flinch.** He stood there, utterly still, his gaze locked on mine, not showing the slightest intent to dodge. He wasn’t afraid–not even a little.
Lorek looked down at the saber pressed awkwardly against his torso and tilted his head. “You’re using it wrong,” he murmured, almost amused. “You should’ve used the sharp side.”
I gritted my teeth, irritated beyond words, and tossed the saber aside. “You’re insane.”
He didn’t back down. Instead, he asked softly, “Why didn’t you?”
I knew what he wanted me to say, but I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. He wanted me to admit I
uldn’t hurt him, that I cared. But I wasn’t going to play into his hands.
With a sharp breath, I said, “Because Maurice saved me that day. It wasn’t a big deal–I only got a few scrapes.” My words came out harsher than I intended, but I refused to let him control the
conversation.
For a brief moment, I saw the light fade from his eyes. His expression dimmed, and finally, he released his grip on me. “You’re angry with me,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “I know I’m the only man you’ve ever been with. The bond doesn’t lie, Shelly.”
I crossed my arms, not backing down. “So what? Just because you don’t have another mate now doesn’t mean you won’t find one later.”
He shook his head, his gaze never leaving mine. “I won’t. I told you–I’ll never marry another woman. I won’t have children with anyone else. If you want to leave, I’ll let you. But know that wherever you go, I’ll follow once I’ve done my duty to the pack.”
I blinked, caught off guard. “And Silvermoon?” I asked, my voice quieter now, less sure.
Lorek sighed. “I told you before–Silvermoon is nothing without you. It’s not as important as you are. I’ll prove it to you, right now.”
