Chapter 170
Before I could respond, he took my hand and guided me toward the car. Confusion flickered in my chest, but I let him lead me, too drained to argue.
The drive was long, and the silence between us felt heavier than the words we had exchanged earlier. I stared out the window, watching the landscape shift as we moved further from the city. The road stretched along the coast, the dark ocean glimmering beneath the moonlight.
“This isn’t the way home,” I finally said, glancing at him.
No,” he replied, eyes focused on the road. “I’m taking you somewhere.”
“Where?”
“You’ll see when we get there.”
An hour later, the car slowed to a stop, and I looked out to see a secluded beach, the waves lapping gently at the shore, glowing silver under the moon’s soft light. The night air was crisp and carried the
scent of saltwater, a stark contrast to the tension that had hung between us earlier.
“What’s the point of coming all the way out here?” I muttered, more to myself than him.
Lorek didn’t answer. He simply opened his door and stepped out of the car. After a beat, I followed, unsure of what he was planning.
He handed me the car keys, a hint of mischief in his eyes. “Could you grab something from the trunk
for me?”
Still confused, I took the keys and moved to the back of the car. As I opened the trunk, I gasped.
It was “full of roses“-red, deep, and velvety, their petals as large as the palm of my hand, with
delicate, burnt edges that gave them an almost timeless beauty. The fragrance enveloped me, warm and sweet, blending with the cool night air.
“These…they’re incredible,” I breathed, my heart skipping a beat. I’d never seen flowers like this
before. They weren’t just ordinary roses; they were rare, luxurious–the kind that you only hear
about in stories.
Lorek stood behind me, watching with a gentle smile. “I didn’t know what flowers you liked,” he admitted. “But I heard that red roses symbolize true love. So, I thought…” He trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.

The sincerity in his words struck me deeper than I expected. “True love“-just two simple words, yet somehow, they carried more weight than all the roses in the world.
Before I could respond, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. My breath caught in my throat as he opened it to reveal a diamond ring–the same ring I had thrown away.
“I’ve been holding onto this,” he said softly. “I wasn’t sure if I should give it to you again, but after you called me today, on your birthday, I decided to try one last time.”
For a moment, I thought he was about to propose again, but instead, he simply placed the box in my
hand.
“This was our wedding ring,” he said quietly. “And it’ll never belong to anyone else. I’m not asking
ou to marry me again, but I want you to have it. If you really want to leave, we’ll go to the council tomorrow and make it official.”
I stood there, frozen, as emotions flooded my chest–anger, sadness, confusion. Before I could process it all, Lorek’s voice broke through again.
“The northern front is at war,” he said, his tone solemn. “A large number of rogues have attacked our territory. I’ll be leading the warriors into battle.”
I looked up at him, my heart racing.
“You are free to choose your own happiness,” he continued. “But if I don’t make it back, everything–the Silvermoon pack, my property–it’s all yours, Shirley.“.
The northern front had always been the most perilous boundary for the pack, a place where the wolves were vulnerable, exposed to constant threats. It was the edge of their territory, where fierce rogues lurked, waiting to strike at any weakness. The air itself seemed to hum with tension, a reminder of the battles that had raged there for years.
Lorek knew this better than anyone. Three years ago, he had fought valiantly in a battle that pushed the rogues back, securing the northern front for a time. But victory had come with a cost–his legs once strong and swift, were now forever damaged.
And yet, here he was, preparing to face the front again.
