Chapter 199
A warrior from the Thorne Valley Pack approached, opening an umbrella and holding it over me as I stepped out of the car. The cold rain splashed against the ground, and I could feel the chill creeping through my body, but I didn’t care. My focus was on the road ahead, the path that would take me far from here, far from him.
Behind me, I heard the car door slam. I didn’t turn, but I,knew Lorik had gotten out. His presence was unmistakable–heavy, full of everything unsaid between us.
“Shirley!” His voice broke through the rain, desperate, pleading.
I stopped, but I didn’t turn to face him.
I heard his footsteps splashing through the puddles as he ran toward me. His hands, rough and trembling, grabbed my wrist, his grip firm but not painful this time. His dark eyes bore into mine, rain dripping down his face, soaking through his clothes.
“If you ever change your mind,” he said, his voice raw with emotion. “If you ever want to come back… you can. I’ll always be here, waiting for you.”
His words were a final plea, an offer laced with hope. But I couldn’t let that hope grow.
I met his gaze, and though my heart clenched, I whispered the truth I had kept buried for so long. “Lorik, the thing I regret most in this life… is falling in love with you.”
His face crumbled, the weight of my words cutting deeper than any physical wound. He loosened his grip on my wrist, his hands falling limply to his sides as he stared at me, disbelief and heartbreak swirling in his eyes.
Without another word, I turned and stepped away, my footsteps firm as I climbed into the waiting

Mathira sat beside me, her presence comforting, though the sadness in her eyes mirrored my own. She gently squeezed my hand, offering silent support.

The rain continued to fall as the car drove nway, the last remnants of my past life fading into the storm behind me.
Third POV:
After Shirley left, Lorik’s life turned into a series of sleepless nights and endless days of regret. Each time he closed his eyes, she was there, a ghost from his past, haunting his dreams and waking thoughts alike. He would replay the memories of their better days, clinging to them as if they were Se only thing that could soothe the deep ache in his heart.
In his mind, the good times became his only solace, a brief escape from the harsh reality that she
was gone.
One such night, after hours of ceaseless work, Lorik sat on the couch in his office, his body exhausted beyond its limits. His mind was heavy, weighed down by both the burdens of his pack and the emptiness left in his life after Shirley’s departure. Slowly, without intending to, he drifted into a fitful sleep.
In the haze of sleep, he felt something soft, warm–gentle hands wrapping around his shoulders, as if offering comfort. His heart leapt in his chest as he opened his eyes. For a moment, in his drowsy state, he saw Shirley standing before him, her face bathed in a warm glow.
“Lorik,” she whispered softly, her voice like a balm to his wounded soul.
“You’re back?” His voice was full of surprise, disbelief, and hope. He reached out, his fingers brushing against her waist, the familiar curve of her body beneath his hands.
Shirley nodded, her eyes filled with affection. The love in her gaze mirrored the nights they had spent together, when nothing else existed in the world but the two of them. The feeling was intoxicating, and Lorik pulled her closer, his hands roaming her back. The movements between
them became intimate, reminiscent of the passion they once shared.
He whispered into her ear, his lips brushing against her skin, “I miss you, Shirley. Every night, I dream of you. I ache for you. I need you.”
Shirley, or at least the figure he believed to be her, looked up at him with wide, innocent eyes. “Alpha, I do too.”
Something snapped inside Lorik.
