As I listened to the men’s threats from behind the factory door, I forced myself to stay calm, my breaths shallow and controlled. I couldn’t afford to panic–not now, not when my life was hanging in the balance. The ropes around my wrists bit painfully into my skin, but I ignored the discomfort,
focusing instead on thinking of a way out. If I let fear consume me, I’d be dead.
Just then, the footsteps outside grew louder, echoing against the cold concrete floor, and a shadow loomed over me. My captor’s face was obscured by darkness, but his presence was palpable–a dark,
looming figure that seemed to take pleasure in the fear he was sowing.

you?”
He chuckled, a harsh, eerie sound that sent chills down my spine. His laugh wasn’t just menacing–it
was the laugh of someone who had already decided what was going to happen, who held all the
power in that moment. “Luna of Silvermoon, you don’t need to know who I am. The only thing you Reed to understand is that your Alpha killed my brother… and I will make him pay.”
I steadied my breathing, forcing a calm tone into my voice despite the fear clawing at my insides.
You’ve kidnapped the wrong person,” I said slowly. “Lorik’s divorcing me. He won’t care if I live or
die, much less risk his life to save me.”
For a moment, he hesitated, but then his lip curled into a snarl. “Don’t try to trick me with your pretty
words.”
He threw a cell phone in front of me, the screen lighting up ominously. Then, he pulled a sharp knife from his pocket and pressed it to my neck. I could feel the cold steel against my skin, and my heart skipped a beat. “Call Lorik,” he ordered, “and tell him you’ve been kidnapped. Tell him to come alone. if he wants you back alive.”
I could feel the tension in the air–the knife too close for comfort. I had no choice but to obey. Trembling slightly, I picked up the phone and dialed Lorik’s number. After a few rings, he answered, his voice sharp and impatient. “Hello?”
“It’s me, Lorik,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “I’ve been kidnapped. You need to come rescue me. We’re mates, you know where I am.”

There was a pause, and for a moment, I thought maybe–just maybe–he would come. But then his voice came through the line, laced with irritation. “What kind of trick is this now, Shirley? I’m tired
your games. I don’t have time to play house with you.”
And with that, the line went dead.
My heart sank–not because of Lorik’s cold dismissal, but because I knew what it meant. His rejection would only enrage my captors, and I had no idea what they might do next. Any hope of a rescue had faded long ago. I’d stopped counting on Lorik. Now, I had only one goal: to survive and find a way to make my own future.
As expected, my captor’s face darkened after hearing Lorik’s words. His grip on the knife tightened, and the blade pressed harder against my skin, dangerously close. But just as my situation seemed at
most dire, I caught a glimpse of someone standing behind him.
Maurice.
He stood in the shadows, his tall frame as dapper as always, exuding an air of calm despite the danger. He winked at me, a mischievous glint in his eyes, silently telling me not to give away his presence. I blinked in acknowledgment, my heart lifting slightly at the sight of him.
The man holding the knife to my throat, less wary because I didn’t have my wolf, seemed deep in thought about how best to deal with me. His arrogance would be his downfall.
Without warning, Maurice moved. He struck fast, disarming one of the men with a single, swift motion. The kidnapper with the gun panicked, turning to shoot, but Maurice dodged the bullet with ease, his movements fluid and quick. In that moment, adrenaline surged through me. Shifting into⚫ my wolf form, I leaped at the captor who held me, catching him off guard.
Together, Maurice and I overpowered the man. His surprise turned to terror as he realized I had a wolf after all. It wasn’t long before Maurice delivered the final blow, and the kidnapper collapsed to
the floor, lifeless.
Breathing heavily, Maurice turned to me, his usual smirk returning despite the blood dripping from
a wound on his hand. “We need to move,” he said, his voice urgent but calm. “There are more of
them, hiding in the mountains. We’re not safe yet.”
Nodding, I searched the thug’s body for keys, quickly locating them. Without wasting any more time, we jumped through a nearby window and made a run for the thug’s souped–up SUV parked outside.
Maurice, grimacing from his injury, glanced at me as we reached the car. “Can you drive this thing?”
I didn’t bother answering. I slipped into the driver’s seat, hands steady as I adjusted to the feel of the wheel. Without hesitation, I revved the engine and expertly maneuvered the car down the mountain

Bath. The terrain was treacherous, the road winding and rough, but I handled it with ease, dodging obstacles with sharp, precise turns.
Maurice held onto the seat for dear life, his surprise evident. “Your driving skills… they’re impressive. You’re no less skilled than a professional racer.”
I felt a surge of excitement as the wind whipped through the open window, the thrill of speed awakening something I hadn’t felt in years. Glancing at him, I couldn’t help but smile. “Have you ever heard the name Cheryl?”
Maurice nodded, his eyes wide. “Cheryl? The legendary female racer? She never took off her helmet, always mysterious, won multiple championships before she suddenly retired…. three years ago.”
smirked, tightening my grip on the wheel as I navigated another sharp turn. “That was me. I got married and gave it all up for my family.”
Maurice’s jaw dropped slightly, a mix of surprise and awe crossing his face. “I can’t believe it,” he muttered, shaking his head. “Cheryl… it was you all along?”
“Yeah,” I replied, my voice wistful. “But that part of my life feels like a distant memory now.”
