Regret
Chapter 47
He didn’t say a word. Instead, he leaned in and kissed me, his lips soft but firm against mine. There was no hesitation, no need for words. In that moment, everything else faded away. It was just us.
The Lorik I kissed that night was nothing like the man I would marry years later. That night, he was “warm, gentle, even a little vulnerable. But the Lorik I ended up with–he was cold, distant, and hard to reach. For three long years of our marriage, I kept holding on to the memory of that night, believing that somewhere deep inside him, the warmth still existed. I thought that maybe, just maybe, I could bring it back out if I waited long enough.
yen now, after everything we’ve been through, seeing that tenderness in his eyes again, even for a brief moment, is enough to make my heart race. It’s like a flicker of hope, reminding me of why I fell for him in the first place.
But there’s still one thing I’ve never figured out: does he even remember me as the girl he spent that night with? Did he know, back then, that I was his mate? Or was I just another fleeting moment in his life?
Because the very next day, word spread around campus that he was with Lorcia. The news hit me like a punch to the gut, and I was left wondering if I had ever really mattered to him at all.
Go back to the present.
The sun dipped low in the sky, casting long shadows across the school parking lot as the day’s classes finally ended. I felt a mixture of excitement and exhaustion coursing through me as I made my way to my car. My footsteps echoed in the almost deserted lot, but my mind was still racing from the events of the day.
As I approached my car, I noticed a girl with glasses standing beside it. Her posture was tense, and she looked like she’d been waiting for me. When she saw me, she hesitated for a moment before stepping forward, her expression a mix of concern and apprehension.
“Hi,” she began, her voice a little shaky. “I’m… uh, I’m Jane. I just wanted to check on you. Are you okay? Did Professor Lorik… I mean, did he chastise you?”
I could see the worry in her eyes, and it caught me off guard. “No, he didn’t chastise me,” I replied, my voice calm. “He was just concerned about my injuries, that’s all.”
Jane’s eyes widened in surprise, and she let out a small sigh of relief. “That’s… unexpected. Lorik is

known for being strict and cold. Everyone at school is a little scared of him.”
shrugged, my mind flashing back to the brief but intense conversation I’d had with Lorik carlier. “He was just doing his job.”
Jane nodded, but her expression grew serious again. “But you’ve messed with Sorcia. She’s the campus goddess, the head cheerleader, and… her boyfriend, he’s not someone you want to cross. He’s the captain of the baseball team and rumored to be the next Alpha of the Silverclaw tribe. They might…make your life here extremely difficult.”
The warning in her voice was clear, but I wasn’t fazed. “I don’t care,” I said firmly. “From the
moment I stepped foot in this school, I knew I’d inevitably get into some trouble. I’m ready to fight
these things to the end.”
Jane looked like she wanted to say something else, but before she could, a commotion broke out nearby. A chubby boy was shoved into the parking lot, stumbling and falling to the ground just a few feet away from us. The force of the shove sent him sprawling, his belongings scattering around him.
Jane’s face went pale, and I could see fear in her eyes. “That’s Max,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “He’s another late awakened, like us. There are some who take pleasure in bullying him.”
My gaze shifted to the group of students who had pushed Max. They were laughing, their eyes filled with cruelty. And standing at the front of the group was none other than my sister, Alice.
The sight of her brought back a flood of memories–memories of her instigating boys to bully me, of
her taunting me, and of the dark, closed room where my parents would lock me up after she
complained. But that was the past. I was no longer afraid of her, nor of the harm my family could
inflict on me. I was capable of fighting back now.
Alice’s eyes met mine, and she smirked, an impish grin spreading across her face. She said something to the boys, and they all started walking towards me, forming a circle around me, Jane,
and Max.
“Well, well,” Alice said, her voice dripping with mockery. “Look who we have here. The girl who
thinks she can stand up to Sorcia.”
I stared back at her, unflinching. “I don’t think. I know.”
Alice’s smirk faltered for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. “You’re still as defiant
as ever, aren’t you? But you should know by now, defiance comes with a price.”
The boys around her started closing in, their eyes gleaming with malice. I could feel Jane trembling beside me, but I stood my ground, my heart pounding with adrenaline.

the first boy lunged at me, I sidestepped nimbly, causing him to stumble forward and crash into the side of my car. The impact was loud, and the other boys hesitated for a moment, glancing at each
her in confusion.
Alice’s eyes narrowed in anger. “Get her!” she snapped.
They came at me again, but I was ready. Each time they tried to grab me, I dodged, letting them collide with the car instead. The sound of metal crunching filled the air as they accidentally
damaged the car’s front wing panel.
The front wing panel, which originally had smooth and fluid lines, was now uneven, as if it had been roughly kneaded. The impact marks started at the edges of the wing panel and spread towards the centre, forming a line of cracks and dents of varying depths.
“Do you know how much this car is worth?” I asked, my voice calm as I watched the boys freeze in place, their eyes wide with realization.
Alice’s face paled as she looked at the damaged car. “W–What?”
“This is a 8–million dollar Koenigsegg,” I said coolly. “You’ll pay the price for your recklessness.”
The boys were silent, their bravado gone as they stared at the broken panel. Alice’s confidence wavered, and I could see the fear creeping into her eyes. She screamed, “No way! How could you
afford such an expensive car?!”
