Chapter 51
I saw Alice’s parents turn pale; after all, not many people can afford the compensation for a piano maestro like Ethan Winter.
Moreover, their pack was already facing serious financial problems. If it hadn’t been for me “marrying Lorik and helping to pay off their debts three years ago, they’re already bankrupt, and
faces a life of wandering the streets and evading creditors.
Alice’s parents, their earlier confidence shattered, reluctantly approached me with forced apologies. “We’re sorry,” Alice’s mother muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. “We…we didn’t know.”
But I wasn’t moved by their words. “I won’t forgive you,” I replied, my tone firm and unwavering. “I hope that from now on, we have nothing to do with each other.”
Alice’s face twisted in anger, her earlier tears forgotten. “You’re so arrogant!” she snapped. “You
think you’re better than us now, just because-”
I cut her off with a calm, icy tone. “When I married Lorik, you all apologized to me, pretending to be regretful. But it wasn’t genuine remorse. You were simply afraid of Lorik’s power. Now, I see your true colors. There’s nothing left to say.”
I turned to the headmaster, my voice steady as I continued, “You’ll be receiving a bill for $800,000, and I’ll be reporting your discrimination and the physical and verbal attacks I’ve endured.”
Alice’s family was visibly seething, but there was nothing they could do. Defeated, they had no
choice but to leave in disgrace, their heads bowed in humiliation.
Ethan, who had remained silent throughout the confrontation, finally spoke up. “There’s something I need to discuss with you,” he said, his voice calm but carrying a weight of urgency.
I nodded and followed him out of the classroom. We ended up in a quiet, dimly lit office–a space
that seemed to reflect Ethan’s introspective nature. Lorik, of course, insisted on accompanying us,
his protective instincts flaring up.
Ethan’s eyes narrowed slightly at Lorik’s presence. “This is a private matter,” he said, a hint of
irritation in his voice.
Lorik, unfazed, shrugged and replied, “Sherry is my Luna and my student. It’s only right that I stay.”
Ethan’s expression darkened, but before the tension could escalate, I intervened. “Please, let’s focus on what’s important. What is it you wanted to talk to me about?”

Ethan’s gaze softened as he turned to me. “There’s a competition coming up, a highly prestigious Piano event. If you can secure a good score, it will open up countless opportunities for you in the
uture.”
Lorik’s face fell as he absorbed the news. “How far away is this competition?” he asked, his tone tinged with concern.
“It’s in European territory,” Ethan replied, “You’ll be gone for several weeks, perhaps longer.”
I could see the conflict in Lorik’s eyes. He didn’t want me to leave, didn’t want to be separated from me for that long. But I also knew how important this opportunity was for my future. It was a chance I couldn’t afford to pass up.
Lorik looked at me expectantly, his silent plea clear in his gaze. He wanted me to stay, to choose him over the competition. The decision weighed heavily on me, and I found myself torn between the life I had with him and the path I needed to take for myself.
It was a precious opportunity, one that I had sacrificed many times before due to the constraints of my marriage. But today, I resolved not to let it slip through my fingers. I had made too many compromises in the past, always putting others before my own aspirations. This time, I was determined to do something for myself.
“I’ll do it,” I said, my voice steady with resolve.

Ethan’s expression brightened immediately. He handed me a carefully prepared entry form, his
pride. “I knew you’d make the right decision, Shirley. I’ve already composed a few tracks specifically for you to use in the competition. They’re tailored to highlight your strengths as a pianist. All you need to do is practice them, and you’ll be ready.”
I took the form from him, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness bubbling up inside me. This was my chance to prove myself, not just as Ethan Winter’s daughter, but as a musician in my
own right.
The events of the previous day had turned me into a bit of a celebrity at school. Everywhere I went, people whispered, their eyes following me as if I were some kind of mythical creature. The newfound attention was overwhelming, but I had no intention of letting it distract me. I was focused on my music, on perfecting the pieces Ethan had given me.
One evening, after a particularly long lesson, I found myself drawn to the school’s piano room. The sun was setting, casting a warm golden light through the windows.
As I approached the room, I heard the unmistakable sound of a violin. The melody was hauntingly beautiful, and yet, there was something familiar about it.

paused to listen for a moment and was astonished to find that, he was playing a piece I had Composed on a whim back when I was still in school!
This piece was composed on the day I dropped out of school three years ago. I played it only once in the school’s practice room and never shared it with anyone. I need to find out who would be playing this piece at the academy.
I gently pushed open the door.
