Chapter 55
The thought crossed my mind briefly but was quickly dismissed. I had made similar requests to Lorik in the past, only to be met with his cold refusals. Now, I have no desire to approach him again, only to face another rejection.
Shadow’s expression softened, and I could see that he understood my thoughts.
“My father was the same,” he admitted with a little comforting smile, “Very strict, to the point of perversion. He never let me have fun, never allowed me to go anywhere unless it was for a purpose.”
smiled faintly, feeling a strange kinship with him in that moment. “Let’s go then,” I said, my voice
firm with determination.
I take out my phone and call Lorik, telling him I won’t be coming home tonight. ‘I have a date with a friend,‘ I said, trying to sound casual.
Lorik was always very interested in my schedule, and I didn’t want him to keep asking me where I was going with whoever I was with. But at this point, on the other end of the line, he seemed
distracted as well.
‘I was just about to call you,‘ he said. ‘I’ve got some things to take care of tonight, too, so I’ll probably
be home late.‘
I sighed in relief, glad I hadn’t impulsively invited Lorik to the amusement park, or I would have just faced another rejection.
I finished the call and followed Shadow to his motorbike. After putting on my helmet, I climbed onto the back, holding on as he revved the engine. The bike shot forward, and in no time, we arrived at
the amusement park.
The scene before us was like something out of a dream. The park was alive with lights and sounds laughter echoing in the air. But it was the Ferris wheel that caught my eye–the giant wheel towering over everything else, a hundred meters tall, its lights twinkling like stars against the night sky.
We bought our tickets and made our way to the Ferris wheel, boarding one of the small, glass–enclosed boxes. Inside, there was a telescope mounted on the side, allowing tourists to take in
the full view of the city below.
Shadow picked up the binoculars first, peering out into the night. I watched him, noting the way his
expression changed, becoming strange and unreadable.

Is the night view beautiful?” I asked, curious.
He hesitated, then shook his head. “There’s nothing to see,” he said quickly, setting the binoculars aside and stopping me from picking them up.
But something in his voice made me suspicious. I gently pushed his hand away and lifted the binoculars to my eyes. The city sprawled out beneath me, a sea of lights glittering like jewels. It was breathtaking.
But then, my gaze drifted to the fairground parking lot, and I froze. There, stepping out of a limo, were two familiar figures.
My heart sank, a cold wave of disbelief washing over me.
Shadow noticed the change in my demeanor and frowned. “What’s wrong?” he asked, concern in his
voice.
I lowered the binoculars, my mind racing with questions I didn’t yet have the answers to. “It’s nothing,” I said, though I knew it was a lie. The truth was, everything had just become a lot more complicated.
My unease prevented me from calming down. I took a deep breath, trying to reassure myself that
maybe I had just seen things wrong. After all, Lorik had been affectionate with me yesterday–How
could he possibly be with Lorcia today?
I comforted myself with these thoughts and lifted the binoculars again, scanning the distance.
The bright lights of the amusement park glittered below the Ferris wheel. Shadow and I were slowly reaching its highest point. The city sprawled out beneath us, but my eyes were drawn to the stretch
limousine that had just pulled up at the entrance of the park. My heart skipped a beat as I watched a
man and a woman step out.
The man was tall, his dark formal wear fitting perfectly on his broad shoulders, giving him a
commanding presence. Even from a distance, I could see how handsome he was, his face sharp and distinguished. The woman beside him was petite, her figure accentuated by the stylish outfit she
wore, adorned with sparkling jewelry that glinted in the evening light. Her hair was perfectly styled,
her makeup flawless–every inch of her screamed elegance and sophistication.
My breath caught in my throat as I recognized them. The man was none other than Lorik, and the woman–Lorcia. I stared in disbelief, the binoculars in my hands trembling slightly. Although I had known that he had betrayed me, I still felt very sick and angry when I saw the image with my own
eyes once again.
They didn’t enter the amusement park. Instead, they stood at the entrance, talking animatedly. The

inoculars were so clear that I could see every detail–the curve of Lorcia’s smile, the way she Teached out to touch Lorik’s arm.
As I watched them, I couldn’t resist a sarcastic smile. Is that what Lorik really meant when he said he had ‘something‘ to take care of tonight?
