Her eyes were fixed on Lorik with an intensity that bordered on obsession, her gaze lingering on his lips, which were curved into a slight smile.
“Rumors spread like wildfire, especially in circles like this.”
Without even glancing up from the computer, Lorik’s voice remained calm but carried a sharp edge. “Shirley is my MATE, and our bond runs far deeper than you could ever understand. I don’t know who’s feeding you lies to try and stir things up between us, but if you say something like that again, I’ll have security drag you out.”
“Fine.”
The woman’s smile faltered for a split second, but she wasn’t about to back down. The defiance in
her eyes was clear–she still didn’t believe there was a man in this world she couldn’t break.
Her eyes narrowing slightly as she picked up a cup from the table. With a deliberate motion, she took a long sip, leaving a vivid smear of lipstick on the rim. Then, as if suddenly remembering
something, she placed the cup back on the table and glanced at Lorik with a feigned look of concern.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” she purred, her voice dripping with false innocence. “I forgot that this is your cup.”
The implication was clear–she was testing boundaries, trying to see how far she could push. It was a
subtle but calculated move, designed to provoke a reaction. She wanted to see how much Lorik
would tolerate, to gauge the depth of our relationship.
Lorik’s reaction was immediate and decisive. He glanced at the cup, his brow furrowing in distaste
as he saw the lipstick mark. Without a word, he stood up, picking up the cup as he did so. “Then throw it away,” he said curtly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
The woman’s eyes widened in surprise, clearly not expecting such a reaction. She reached out quickly, grabbing his arm in an attempt to stop him. “I’m sorry,” she stammered, her voice wavering slightly. “Let me take it. I’ll go wash it for you.”
As she spoke, she leaned in closer, deliberately brushing her chest against his arm. Her dress gaped slightly, revealing more of the creamy skin beneath. It was a calculated move, one designed to distract and entice.
But Lorik remained unaffected. He gently but firmly pulled his arm free, his gaze never wavering from the task at hand. “That won’t be necessary,” he replied coolly, tossing the cup into the trash bin with a finality that echoed through the room.

At that moment, I decided to make my presence known. I cleared my throat softly, drawing the attention of both occupants in the room. The woman turned first, her eyes narrowing as she took in may presence. Lorik’s reaction was different as he looked at me..

Lorik, who had been focused on his computer moments before, now crossed the room with quick strides, his expression a mix of frustration and concern. He reached for me, his strong arm
wrapping protectively around my waist, pulling me close as if to shield me from the scene. “Shirley,”
he began, his voice laced with urgency. “It’s not what it looked like. I was just trying to get her off
me.”
I glanced up at him, my face calm though my heart raced. I could see the unease in his eyes, the
unspoken fear that I might misunderstand the situation. But I was used to these encounters–women
like the one now glaring at me with thinly veiled disdain were a common occurrence in Lorik’s life. They always assumed they could waltz in and seduce him, disregarding my presence.
The woman’s gaze flickered between us, the confusion still evident as she tried to make sense of what she was seeing. “Hi,” I said, my voice steady. “I’m Shirley Winter, the person you were just
discussing.”
Her lips parted In surprise, and then her expression shifted into one of mild disbelief. “You two seem to be in a good relationship,” she remarked, though her tone was skeptical. “But there’s a rumor going around that you’ve separated and are now pretending to be Alpha and Luna… Is that true?”
A cold shiver ran down my spine at the mention of the rumor. Someone had been deliberately spreading lies, trying to undermine our relationship. I glanced at Lorik, who shook his head slightly, his eyes narrowing in silent communication. He had already blocked the news, ensuring it wouldn’t reach Caroline, who was still recovering in the hospital.
“We’re on good terms, ma’am,” Lorik replied, his voice cold and firm. “Put away those little tricks of yours. The choice of spokesperson was evaluated by the business department based on several
factors, not on gossip.”
The woman’s suspicious gaze darted between the two of us, seemingly judging in our relationship.
When she noticed me and Lorik intimately holding hands together, her aura completely changed, and the deliberately flirtatious sexiness she had just created completely disappeared. Although her face was still gorgeous, she no longer deliberately highlighted her proud figure.
