Chapter 46

Evan let out a cold chuckle, his beautiful eyes unreadable. “You’re so confident I won’t find her?”
Zoey sat back down, his tone resentful. “You’re framing me! You can just say you want to fire me, no need to concoct these false accusations!”
“I’m asking about Ms. Frost’s whereabouts!” Evan slammed the table, his expression shifting from inscrutable to fiercely intimidating.
Zoey’s pupils dilated, but he quickly regained his composure, defiantly stating, “I don’t know where Ms. Frost is! If you claim I’m involved, then produce the evidence!”
Evan suppressed his anger, his face now utterly cold. His earlier aggressive questioning was to gauge Zoey’s reaction. Unlike Derek, Zoey showed no signs of panic; he even seemed pleased and relaxed when Evan said, “You’re so confident I won’t find her.” Could it be… that she truly couldn’t be found?
He clenched his fists.“I have a bad habit: I’m fiercely loyal. Anyone who touches my people, with or without evidence, will face dire consequences. Mr. Zhu seems eager to experience that.”
Zoey met Evan’s death stare, swallowed hard, but quickly reassured himself: He didn’t imprison her; she jumped into the sea of her own accord. What did it have to do with him?
“Mr. President, I know you’re worried about Ms. Frost’s disappearance; we are too. If you need to vent your anger, you can target Du and me, we won’t complain,” Zoey began his emotional appeal.“Just don’t punish the others; they’ve done nothing wrong. Everyone has devoted themselves to the company. To treat loyal employees like this for a beautiful woman… it’s disheartening,” he said, feigning tears.
Some uninvolved employees were swayed by his words, starting to resent Evan. Zoey successfully manipulated the emotions of the crowd, particularly Ann Maxwell.
At that moment, Zach returned and whispered to Evan, “Derek confessed. She’s being held at his family’s old house.” “Julian will be there. Have your men search a five–kilometer radius around the house.”
“But the house is by the sea.”
A chill ran down Evan’s spine. A body in the ocean would be nearly impossible to recover.
Zach, also guessing this, quickly left to organize the search.
Seeing their hushed conversation and Zach’s hurried departure, everyone exchanged glances. Had they found her? The accomplices in the kidnapping broke out in another cold sweat.
Zoey sneered; Derek must have confessed. He pretended to ask, “Did you get news of Ms. Frost?”
Evan noted the fleeting sarcasm on his lips.“Indeed… Mr. Zhu, are you afraid?”
