Chapter 48
Everyone stared at the doorway. A soaking wet woman, pale and bruised, weak and vulnerable, yet still strikingly beautiful, leaned against the frame.
It was Olivia!
The company and factory employees recognized her.
Evan abruptly stood, hurrying to her side, supporting her. His eyes shone with relief.“Olivia, you’re alright.” A surge of joy made him want to hold her tight.
Olivia smiled. “I was lucky. I didn’t die.” She explained that her grandmother lived by the sea; she was a strong swimmer and knew how to survive in the waves. Luckily, she’d hit a rock with her leg, not her head, when she jumped. The leg wound was severe, excruciating with every step, but a kind girl helped her back to the factory. She had to return to expose Derek and Zoey!
Evan noticed the blood–soaked towel on her thigh.“You’re injured. I’ll take you to the hospital.”
“Let’s handle this first. I can manage,” Olivia said, her gaze fixed on Zoey, her face pale, but her eyes burning with fire.
Evan knew he couldn’t dissuade her; this woman, though seemingly fragile, was incredibly strong–willed. He put his arm around her shoulder, pulling her close. Seeing her drenched in sweat a few steps later, ignoring the stares, he scooped her up into his arms and gently placed her in his seat.
Everyone was stunned. They had claimed there was nothing between them… This was way too intimate! Ann Maxwell’s heart ached. Olivia, however, only felt the hug easing her pain; she didn’t have the energy to think beyond
that.
Olivia noticed Ann Maxwell’s phone was still on speakerphone. She sneered.“Vice President Zhu, how dare you? You should have made sure I was really dead before making your accusations!”
Zoey feigned ignorance. “Ms. Frost, what are you saying? I don’t understand.” He believed there was no irrefutable evidence against him.
He turned to Ann Maxwell, trying to manipulate her emotions.“Ann, her return seems like a slap in the face, but it’s really to make you look foolish in front of the President. She’s incredibly manipulative!”
Olivia thought, This guy is shameless!
Ann Maxwell, indeed, glared at her resentfully.“Olivia, you’re framing Vice President Zhu, staging this whole thing. You dragged everyone here late at night just to watch you seduce the President, right? Your scheming is appalling!” Olivia’s eyes widened in disbelief. Was Ann Maxwell an accomplice? Impossible. Zoey must have gotten there first!
