Chapter 56
Olivia was stunned. Evan said “worried,” but it sounded like “missed” to her. Her cheeks flushed slightly.“Uh… thank you for your concern, President.”
“I care about all my subordinates,” Evan said calmly. Zach silently muttered to himself: Does he, though?
An awkward silence descended. Zach broke the tension with a laugh, continuing the factory discussion.“Ms. Frost, you were incredibly perceptive. You were eighty percent right.”
“What about the other twenty percent?” Olivia asked curiously.
“Those two ‘ghost‘ workers? They were real ghosts. They were murdered by Derek.”
“Murdered!” Olivia was shocked. She hadn’t expected them to be victims.
Zach:“Crazy, right? It’s a murder case. We didn’t expect that either.”
Olivia: “I understand. That was Zoey’s leverage. No wonder he was so confident Derek wouldn’t rat him out; he was happy to use him as a scapegoat.”
Zach detailed Derek’s murder, how Zoey used it, and his larger embezzlement schemes, including stealing research data, materials, etc.–a shocking amount of corruption.
Olivia looked at Evan.“Is this going to be a complete overhaul?” If the factory was like this, the company must also have its problems.
“It will be a complete overhaul,” Evan nodded. “The branch has consistently underperformed. I intended to restructure it anyway, and now I have a good reason. It’s not a bad thing.”
Olivia suddenly felt like a loyal enforcer in the service of a prince.
Julian entered, his face dark upon seeing Evan.“Mr. Jones, what’s your intention in visiting another man’s wife every day?”
Olivia gasped.“Julian, are you insane?!”
Evan remained calm and collected. “I’m checking on the recovery of my subordinate. After all, she was injured because of me.”
Julian’s temples throbbed.“Listen carefully, she’s my woman. She’s mine in life and in death. Anyone who tries anything will face my wrath.”
Evan simply smiled faintly. Julian seemed to understand the implication of his smile, his anger intensifying.
