Chapter 66
Neeing Zach’s ready agreement, Sherry was pleased.“Thanks.”
Zach “You’re welcome. I’ll tell Gary,” He immediately called Gary, who readily agreed.
Hanging up. Gary went to the study.“Sir, Ms. Frost’s friend talked to Zach in the elevator. She said Ms. Frost would be alone tonight and asked us to help.”
Evan looked up from his computer screen, his silver–rimmed glasses glinting, his striking eyes deep and calm, a hint of doubt in their depths. “Asking three men to take care of an immobile woman at night?”
“Uh…” Gary was confused.“Sir, what do you mean?”
“Contact her first. Ask what she wants,”
“Right.” Gary called Olivia in front of Evan.“Ms. Frost, your friend asked us to look after you. The Sir wants to know if you’re okay with that.”
Olivia, drowsy on her chaise lounge, jolted awake at the sound of the phone. Xiaxia, you sneaky devil!
“My preference?”
“Yes, Considering we’re all men, the Sir is concerned you might object, so he asked me to check with you first. Ms. Frost, would you mind?”
Olivia feigned politeness.“I don’t mind, but wouldn’t that be too much trouble?” Gary:“No trouble at all. I made wild ginseng chicken soup; I’ll bring it over later.” “That’s soup you made for the President. I shouldn’t drink it.”
“Then he can come down, and you two can share it.”
Olivia was startled. “No, no, no! Absolutely not! Gary, I’ve already ordered takeout!”
Hearing “takeout,” Gary panicked.“You can’t eat takeout! You’re so weak, you need to nourish yourself. I’ll come down and get you; you can have dinner with the Sir. I’ll make a couple more dishes.”
“No, no, no!!”
“It’s settled then.” Gary hung up. Olivia was exasperated.
In the study, Evan looked at Gary. “You’re getting more and more assertive in
old age.” your
Gary:“Takeout isn’t as good as my chicken soup. And Zach said Ms. Frost was injured on the job. Such a good person–would you really let her eat takeout alone?”
Evan didn’t answer.
“I’ll go get Ms. Frost now.” Gary turned to leave.
“Aren’t you simmering the soup? Don’t you need to watch it?” Evan said softly, taking off his glasses.
