Chapter 74
“Don’t get excited. I just wanted to bond with you, Auntie,” Rita’s weak voice held a chilling undertone.“After all, I’ll eventually marry into the Shaw family and call you ‘Mom,‘ wouldn’t you agree, Mom?” Her words were sweet, but Jiang Wenhui felt a chill, a terrifying feeling of being haunted. She regretted her actions, but it was too late. Five days later, Olivia’s leg was almost healed. The past few days had been calm; Julian hadn’t bothered her. After the Weibo incident, he was probably too busy dealing with the backlash against Rita and her family.
Olivia had prepared herself for trouble. After calling Sherry, she worried that the Crowe family, unable to reach her here, might target her parents. She called her father that night, asking him to take her mother to her grandmother’s for a few days–under the guise of visiting, to actually avoid any confrontation.
The father and daughter didn’t speak much; Sherry had already explained the situation. Wen Qianhong only told her to take care of herself.
She’d prepared for the worst, yet they hadn’t come to the building, hadn’t contacted her parents, not even a harassing call. The Weibo post’s popularity hadn’t diminished. Were they planning something bigger? Or were they wary of Evan? Was his intervention at the charity gala still that impactful?
Speaking of Evan, he hadn’t appeared since she moved in, even Gary had moved to the servant’s quarters, only appearing for mealtimes. Clearly avoiding any appearance of impropriety.
In the evening, Olivia saw Gary preparing dinner. She went in to help and chat.“Gary, where’s the President staying these days?”
“The Sir wouldn’t be homeless,” Gary chuckled.“This is just a temporary residence, close to the company. He’s gone home these past few days. His parents missed him.”
Gary paused, whispering, “Actually, his parents called him home for something important.”
Olivia:“What important thing?”
“A blind date.”
Evan needs a blind date?“As the eldest son, his marriage is crucial to the family. They pressured him during the last Lunar New Year, setting him up with several eligible young ladies, but nothing came of it. He was focused on work in America back then, leaving after the New Year. His mother couldn’t do much. Now that he’s back in China, he can’t escape.”
