Chapter 81
Julian glanced at her.“You’re actually quite afraid of dying.”
Olivia gripped her seatbelt. What did he mean? Was it because her insistence on divorce angered him, or because he remembered her threat to sue him and play the recording? She thought about how to call for help; the first person that came to mind wasn’t the police but Evan…
“Who are you thinking about?” Julian noticed her distraction, his anger rising.
Olivia glanced at him.“I’m thinking about when you’ll stop this car, if we’ll run out of gas, and how we’ll get back.”
Julian didn’t speak. Olivia discreetly reached into her bag; she had a spare phone. Instead of calling Evan, she sent Sherry her location and messages every five minutes.
Sherry saw the location, understanding the distress signal. She drove to intercept them. She didn’t call the police; she figured Julian wouldn’t hurt her, he just wanted to be alone with her.
The car drove out of an orchard, continued for an hour on a highway, passed a suburban area, and a small town….. finally running out of gas at the foot of a remote mountain.
Spring had arrived, but all she heard were crickets and frogs.
“It’s just us now.” Julian rolled down the window and lit a cigarette.
“So, what are you going to do?” Olivia took a deep breath, resignedly asking.
Julian exhaled smoke, watching her.“I think the reason you’re so cold to me is because we don’t have children.”
