Chapter 84
Julian? Impossible. Even if he knew she’d run, even if he guessed she’d head this way, how could he know the w hiding on this obscure hillside? It made no sense!
In a flash of inspiration, she remembered the man who’d yelled from outside the car window. Could it have been him…? Perhaps he’d been hiding nearby, seeing her escape from the trunk and following her….
This realization completely unnerved her. She crouched lower, heading deeper into the woods. Footsteps followed, drawing closer.
A torrent of terrifying thoughts flooded Olivia’s mind: being dragged into the woods at night, raped and murdered, or kidnapped and sold to Myanmar for organ harvesting… She should have stayed in the car. No, even in the car, once Julian left, he could have broken the window and attacked her!
She ran faster, ignoring the pain in her leg. A beam of light shone; she vaguely heard someone calling her name, bor fear had made her ears ring, her heartbeat drowning out all other sounds…
“Help-!” She screamed, leaping to her feet and running. Running uphill, a weight landed on her waist, her feet left the ground, a strong arm wrapping around her waist, lifting her into the air.
“Aaah–Help–Help–Murder-!” She screamed, her legs kicking wildly, connecting several times with her captor
“No one’s going to kill you.” A familiar, soothing voice whispered in her ear.
Olivia froze. She looked up to see a cold, handsome face–Evan.
“You… you… you…” she stammered.
Evan:“Scared? Don’t you recognize me?”
Olivia was close to tears.“How are you here?”
“Taking a stroll.”
She knew he was lying, but then she thought–why else would he be here? He must have come to rescue her.
Evan settled her on his lap, his hand moving from her waist to her arm, half–encircling her. “I called your name. Why did you run?”
“My ears were ringing,” Olivia answered honestly.
“Running that fast? Didn’t you worry about reopening your wound?” At his words, she felt a sharp pain in her leg. Damn it.
Evan saw her grimace.“Olivia, you didn’t do this to take extra time off, did you?”
Olivia:“Of course not!”
“Then why weren’t you at home? Why did you go to that meeting?” Evan’s expression was cold.“Stop being my secretary. Be my ancestor. You have the potential.”
“I’m sorry,” Olivia hung her head.
Evan:“Considering you were injured while working for the company, I’ll save you this once. Next time, I won’t
interfere.”
Olivia nodded repeatedly.“I understand. President, you’re so kind. I’ll… uh… work harder.”
