Chapter 89
It was a family drama. Seeing the mother–in–law and daughter–in–law conflict, I thought of Jiang Wenhui and Rita. They’d both returned to the Shaw residence last evening. Had they formed an alliance? Did Jiang Wenhui so quickly forger being scapegoated? She’s not that stupid; would she really accept such a daughter–in–law? I couldn’t understand her, but it wasn’t a bad thing, another person to pressure Julian. Though, it mostly depended on Rita… who, so far, hadn’t achieved much.
After breakfast, I pondered my next move. Should I provoke Rita again, to unleash her “potential“? I decided against it; she was already erratic, pushing her too far wouldn’t be good,
My thoughts shifted; remembering I hadn’t replied, I called Gary. He’d been taking care of my meals, even reminding me to be careful the day before. I had to check in.
Gary already knew I was safe; the Sir had returned to the penthouse. He didn’t say anything, only smiling and saying, “That’s good.”
Before I could hang up, another call came in–Yao Wuge, the gossip queen. I told Gary and hung up, answering Yao Wuge “Yao, what now?”
“Oh my god, are you offline?! Did you see the Shaw family’s statement? Your mother–in–law is slandering you! I’m furious!”
“…What slander?” I was confused.
I told Yao Wuge not to hang up and checked. Twenty minutes ago, the Shaw family, through the Shaw Corp Group’s official account, released a video clarifying Rita’s Weibo post.
Before this, the video’s male lead was unknown. The influencers had been paid; they wouldn’t reveal anything. Different circles don’t communicate. That’s why many celebrities, insiders, know about their secret marriages, children, and messy relationships, but the public doesn’t.
The Shaw family could have remained silent. But they chose to release this information.
I saw Jiang Wenhui holding a press conference. Hearing what she said, my blood pressure rose.
At the press conference, Jiang Wenhui introduced herself as the mother of the man in the video, claiming to know the full story. She said it wasn’t as it seemed. She said the Shaw and Gu families had a childhood betrothal; both families were well–matched, and despite the age difference, they were in love, planning a wedding for Rita’s coming–of–age. Then, I appeared. She claimed I wanted to marry into a wealthy family, knowing Julian was betrothed, using underhanded tactics to seduce him and force him to marry me. Even after succeeding, the Shaw family never acknowledged me.
She said Julian saw through my gold–digging nature, claiming I was greedy, having affairs while he was away. She claimed he was devastated, and the Shaw and Gu families were working on a project, causing frequent contact between Julian and Rita.
Her conclusion: Rita wasn’t the mistress; I was.
Jiang Wenhui presented “evidence“: text messages of me demanding exorbitant compensation, photos of me with a middle–aged man in a hotel hallway at midnight, and a recording of me demanding 10% of the Shaw Corp Group’s shares at the Shaw residence. Even more outrageous… a copy of Julian and Rita’s ten–year–old betrothal agreement.
