Chapter 6
“Charlie, you bastard!”
Joanne looked fierce, and it seemed like a fight was about to break out.
Charlie’s friends rushed forward to pull the two apart.
Meanwhile, I took advantage of the chaos and ran off with the flowers.
He had said he was on a business trip and would be holding a birthday party in a few days, inviting nearly everyone of significance in Las Vegas.
Of course, that included my family.
On the day of the banquet, I wore an elegant long dress and moved through the grand hall.
The Ryan family really was influential.
As the last piano piece ended, the grand banquet slowly drew to a close.
Everyone’s eyes were on Daniel as he walked into the hall.
He had an excellent build, wearing a high–end black suit, with a smile on his face. His whole demeanor radiated an aristocratic yet lazy charm.
He looked like a completely different person from when he wore the racing suit.
After some socializing, his eyes began to search the crowd, eventually locking onto me.
When our gazes met, there was an endless warmth and desire in his eyes.
I smiled at him, and my heartbeat quickened. It felt like we finally met each other in person.
At some point, Charlie had appeared behind me.
He had meticulously combed his hair, looking like he had put in a lot of effort.
“Isla, I’ve already broken up with Joanne. If you’re willing, we can restore the engagement tomorrow.”
I sneered, “Stop dreaming.”
“Did you really fall for Daniel? Give it up. I just went to check for you, and Daniel said he already has someone he
likes.”
I ignored him and was about to leave when he blocked my way.
Charlie swirled the wine glass in his hand, sneering. “I told you, he won’t be interested in you. Why can’t you understand? Why do you keep trying to reach for something you can’t have?”

I smiled too and asked him softly, “Did Joanne not come today? Doesn’t your head hurt?”
Charlie raised an eyebrow. “Say whatever you want. I’m just trying to warn you.”
During the meal, I sat at the same table as Charlie’s mother. She sighed when she saw me.
“Isla, it’s all because of that stubborn boy, Charlie. He lost such a good daughter–in–law like you. I heard he’s starting to regret it. Could you…?”
“It’s impossible, Auntie. Charlie and I are no longer involved.”
Charlie’s mother shook her head repeatedly, even eating with little enthusiasm.
Halfway through the meal, no one expected Joanne to suddenly arrive.
She was dressed provocatively and wore makeup that didn’t suit the occasion. She walked confidently to our table.
Charlie’s mother gasped.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, looking around nervously. “Where’s Charlie? And what’s with letting anyone into the Ryan family’s event?”
Joanne plopped down into an empty seat beside her, speaking harshly. “You can’t say that, Auntie. Charlie said he would marry me, so I’m already your daughter–in–law. It’s only natural for me to come.”
All the women at the table paused, frowning, clearly disapproving of Joanne’s attitude.
Charlie’s mother, feeling embarrassed, immediately started to scold her. “Who do you think you are, to be part of our Cooper family?”
Slap!
Joanne slammed the table and casually threw a bowl of soup, standing up to shout at Charlie’s mother, “I’m pregnant with your Cooper family’s child, don’t think you can just dismiss me!”
The room gradually quieted, and everyone’s attention turned to us.
However, no one noticed that the soup Joanne threw hit me directly.
“What’s going on?” Charlie rushed over and quietly questioned.
His mother scowled, “What’s going on? You caused this mess. Now it’s affecting the birthday banquet. How are we going to explain this to the Ryan family?”
It was extremely embarrassing, but Joanne didn’t seem to care.
As Charlie had said, she was loud, lively, and bold.
Charlie pulled her. “Let’s go, stop embarrassing yourself!”

Joanne shrugged him off, and for a moment, the three of they were tangled up
Just then, Charlie’s father, who had just returned from the bathroom, danced over and quickly realized what was happening. He hurried toward us.
As the family tried to leave, Daniel walked over.
He blocked their way, hands casually in his pockets, exuding an imposing presence.
I suddenly realized, he was a whole head taller than Charlie, and now he was looking down at him with a calm, authoritative gaze.
Charlie’s father repeatedly apologized, “Mr. Ryan, I’m terribly sorry. It’s my fault for not handling the family matters properly. We’ll leave now, and in a few days, we will come to apologize in person.
Daniel chuckled lightly, his tone calm and unhurried. “I don’t interfere with your family matters.”
“But,” he suddenly stopped smiling, his face darkening, “Why should your family affairs affect my girlfriend?
“What?” Charlie looked confused, “Who, who is your girlfriend?” His mood seemed to shatter, like a stone had been thrown into a calm lake, never to be the same again.
