«Live with a system) Chapter 13
The system notified Riley, “Ethan’s outside the college.”
Riley took a detour to the back entrance. She’d asked the school not to tell anyone about her and they valued student privacy.
She didn’t expect Ethan to come in person. Was he here to question Chloe’s acceptance or to take her back?
Riley looked at her brother from afar. He was cold and stern. She’d avoided their detection for enths. She was so low–key that she only had several acquaintances near her apartment. Riley looked away and went upstairs. She didn’t care about Ethan; he couldn’t find her. But she worried about the system.
“System, you sound weaker… Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Host. I’ll always be with you.”
Ethan returned empty–handed. He didn’t know why he’d come here. Riley was a disappointing sister… But he felt empty without her.
Ethan felt a headache and fell asleep on the couch.
“Ethan! Ethan!”
Ethan was woken up. He rubbed his eyes, “Riley? What’s wrong?”
Chloe stood there, her body stiffening. She forced a smile.
“Ethan, it’s me, Chloe.”
Ethan recognized her. She was in a white silk dress, her hair down, looking sweet and delicate.
“Oh. Why aren’t you sleeping?”
Chloe pouted.“You came home so late and fell asleep on the couch. You looked terrible and ] heard you talking in your sleep, so I woke you up.”
Ethan wanted to pull Chloe closer, but he remembered his dream.
Riley was crying.“Do you remember the vow you made at Mom and Dad’s grave?” Ethan instinctively pushed Chloe away. She looked shocked and hurt.
Looking at Chloe, Ethan felt guilty. He stood up and patted her shoulder.
“I’m going to bed. Good night.”
Chloe frowned, watching Ethan go upstairs. A bad feeling arose.
She bit her lip. Mark was in the army, Chase was in college; only she and Ethan stayed here. She couldn’t lose what she’d gained.
