«Live with a system) Chapter 30
Alex stepped back, looking polite and formal. Riley came back to herself, watching him leave
After high school, she found it hard to trust anyone. Especially, Chloe was her rival. She had been avoiding emotional entanglement with anyone to protect herself. Alex was no exception. But she wished him to be special.
Love was a process of demystification. Yet, the more she knew Alex, the more fascinated she became. Beautiful things were dangerous. She sighed. She shouldn’t remain trapped in her teenage anxieties. Willingness to change Was the best beginning, right?
Downstairs, Alex got into his car, his face grim. Brenda glanced at him.“What happened? Did you fight with Riley?”
“Why would I? She’s stubborn and never says what she feels,” Alex muttered, typing furiously. He believed that Riley would soon agree to be with him if it weren’t for that stupid Chloe. He felt so defeated. He should have refused to work with Chloe without even asking Riley for her opinion.
Brenda heard him sigh, like a lovesick teenager,
Soon, the negative comments about Riley online were removed. The next morning, Alex posted on his social media, launching a counterattack.
“I wish someone would focus on their work instead of hype. Riley Davis is an excellent psychologist, and I’m pursuing her.”
Never before had a celebrity admitted a relationship and publicly refuted rumors like this! Alex’s fans, though heartbroken, were thrilled.
Evelyn shook Riley with excitement.
“Your Alex is so awesome! Riley, call him!”
Riley was dazed.
Alex found Riley near her apartment. He grabbed her. As soon as they entered, she whispered, “I admit you were right. I would say no to you if you told me you were seeing Chloe.” Alex raised an eyebrow. He was about to speak, but she continued, “But that’s not what I want… I didn’t want you to film with Chloe…”
་་
He leaned down, seeing her tears. He felt pain too. He wouldn’t do this to her. He pulled her close.“Riley, you like me, right?”
Riley nodded.
“Let’s be together.”
“Mm–hmm…”
“Why didn’t you agree?”
Alex held her hand, his fingers interlaced with hers, afraid she’d run. Riley touched his face. She smiled, shy but genuine.
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
