Ethan was stunned. He instinctively reached for Riley so he could fill the hole in his heart, but the ER door opened.

The next day, Riley went to school, looking unaffected. The students were still judging her.
“How cam Riley just come to school? She deserves to be expelled!”
“She pushed Chloe and acts like nothing happened!”
Riley ignored them and focused on her studies.
After school, she
surrounded stopped. Several tough–looking guys was

“Riley Davis, right?” They shoved her against a wall.
Riley paled.“I’m not…”
The leader slapped her face.“Kind of pretty, huh. Mark said we couldn’t kill you, but he didn’t say we couldn’t bang you.”

Riley couldn’t believe it. She knew Mark’s family had something to do with the mob, but she had no idea he would deal with her in this way.
Riley trembled.“Don’t touch me!”
Even the system sounded urgent.“Host, I’ve called the police. Don’t be afraid.” Someone interrupted this.“What are you guys doing?!”
The thugs turned. Riley saw Chase at the end of the alley. He walked toward her.
Riley’s heart pounded. Soon, Chase got rid of the thugs.
He sneered.“You get into trouble everyday.”
Riley thanked him.
Chase scoffed.“I did this only because you’re a Davis.”
Riley didn’t respond. Chase turned and warned her, “Riley, it’s my birthday party this weekend. My mom wants you there. FYI, just because you’re my fiancée doesn’t mean I’m into you. I like
Chloe.”
Riley nodded and went home. Chase had someone send her a dress.
On Saturday night, Riley wore the dress to Chase’s party. She planned to wish him a happy birthday one last time. Breaking up with him would be the best gift.
The party was lavish. Chloe was still in the hospital, but Mark and other classmates were there.
