cracked.“Riley, do
you know what you’re saying?!”
Riley, though battered, looked calm.“I’m saying the engagement is over. We’re done. I don’t want to see you again.”
The system beeped, “Host, mission complete: Break off Chase.”
“Congratulations, you’ve achieved your goal! The reward is the Harvard acceptance. You can use it anytime.”
Riley left the party. Watching her leave, Chase felt a strange unease. He instinctively wanted to chase her, but Mark stopped him.

Mark looked at Riley’s back, silent.

Riley, who had finally cut ties with the three men, slept soundly.
The next day, the teacher called her, “Riley, your acceptance form needs your guardian’s signature.”
Even though Riley had secured her Harvard spot, she preferred MIT, which was not so far away. This reminded her she needed to go home and get the amulet her mother left her..
Riley got the form and returned home. The house was empty. She went to her room. Most of her valuables were gone, including her jewelry box. But her amulet was still there. She was relieved.
As she was leaving, she heard footsteps. It was Ethan. He was on the phone, “Please switch Chloe and Riley’s files… Yeah, I’ll have Riley give Chloe the spot at MIT on her own free will… She’s my sister, but she owes Chloe…”
Riley felt her world crumbling. She wanted to cry, but she didn’t. She calmly told the system, “System, I don’t want the MIT spot. Use the reward. I need to get away from them completely.”
Chase realized Riley hadn’t been to school for two weeks since the party. He thought she was crying somewhere, but even his men couldn’t find her.
Then the senior awards ceremony began. The acceptance announcements would be made there. Chase soon put Riley behind him. After all, he and Chloe were getting accepted.
The ceremony was formal. Ethan and Mark were there for Chloe’s “acceptance“. They’d agreed to switch Riley’s spot with Chloe’s.
Looking at Chloe’s smile, Chase suddenly felt Riley should be there. He listened as the principal announced the final acceptance.
“Congratulations to Chase Walker, and… Sarah Miller…”
Chase was stunned. So were the others. Chloe’s smile vanished.
Ethan stood up.“Principal, doesn’t Chloe have this spot?”
Everyone looked at him. Chloe’s face flushed.
