He laughed excitedly, allowing me to pour him a full glass of the red wine. We spend the better part of the night drinking and talking about anything under the sun. At some point, the conversation took a solemn turn.
“I don’t care if you have any secrets,” he said. “But I won’t stand and watch you go through such emotional pain every again.”
I frowned. “Did something happen?”
He sighed, taking another sip of his wine. “I’ve heard a lot of Luna’s saying that they’re preparing to send their daughters to the Alpha Palace for the princess selection.”
Oh. That again. I had almost completely gotten it out of my mind.
Olavir went on. “Of all the princes in the palace, the only one without a mate is the king’s most treasured son and heir, Askhan.”
I felt my breathing hitch. It was like the Moon God had gripped hard on my throat, preventing me from being able to breathe.
