Chapter 122
It was odd to see him in this state. Quentin was a meticulous man that liked to have himself in a clean and organized state most times. Which was why it was a bit surprising to see him this way.
“Quentin.” The words had left my lips before I realized it.
Askhan didn’t look all that happy to see Quentin. I sent him one last glance, noting the look of confliction
on his face.
“There’s something I need to do, Askhan. I’ll be back.” I said to him.
With that, I bade him one final goodbye and made my way into the Quentin’s car without a single word.
There was a smirk on Quentin’s face as he looked at Askhan. Without another word, he jumped into the car and drove out of the palace.
Now that it was just the both of us in the car, I couldn’t help the weird feeling that had wrapped itself
around me.
The tension in the car was thick enough for a scissors to slice through it. Quentin’s grip on the steering wheel was firm as he kept driving forward. Moments of silence passed and I wondered if he was going to say anything or just keep staring at me from the mirror.
“Where have you been all day?” I broke the silence.
He glanced at me briefly. “Been out doing a thing or two. Why? You suddenly interested in me?”
I rolled my eyes, resisting the urge to make another snarky retort. Quentin was the kind of person to antagonize you with his words. I wasn’t about to fall for it.
Not now.
There was no point in arguing with him. I was better off saving my energy for something else. Not this.
“How did you know I was at the Alpha Palace?” I asked, changing the topic immediately.
He chuckled lightly. “You’re the center of all attention. It’s not so hard to find out where you are at all times.”
“So you’ve been stalking me.” I said blankly.

“You make it sound like I’m some deranged person.” Quentin shot back.
“Who knows?” I levelled a pointed stare at him before looking forward once again.
“All I’m saying,” He went on. “Is that I could very easily pinpoint where you are at any moment. You’re not exactly someone who’s on the low.”
“Oh really?” I sent him an incredulous look.
His eyes flicked to me briefly, a confident smile playing at his lips. He probably thought he held all the
cards here.
I leaned closer to him, gently stroking his shoulder. It was hard to miss the way his whole body seemed to stiffen at something as simple as a touch from me.
“Focus on your driving.” I sent him a dry smile.
It was like the air in the car had slowly shifted into something else. It felt suddenly warmer all of a
sudden.
Quentin’s grip on the steering had visibly tightened. That didn’t stop me from giving him a single respite.
I leaned even closer to him, my breasts gently rubbing against his arm as I did. His eyes flicked to me again, this time dropping down to something else.
It was hard to miss how his eyes had darkened instantly. I leaned back, immediately putting some
distance between us.
He had gone back to focusing on the road before him but it was pretty clear that something had shifted in his demeanour.
I should have been content with just staring out the window and enjoying the scenery but a part of me wasn’t the satisfied with just sitting there and saying anything.
My eyes landed on a bottle in the cup holder and I immediately grabbed it. Quentin’s gaze flicked to me briefly as I took a small drink of the water.
When I was done, I rested the bottle in my laps and went about thinking on how I was going to go about with what I had to say.
The first thing that came to my head was to pick up the leaf that had stuck to Quentin’s shirt. I gently pulled it off and examined it in my hand.

“How did you get this?” I asked.
His gaze turned to the leaf I had in my hand. “I don’t know. Maybe someone got it on my body without me realizing.”
For Quentin, putting up a front and maintain a cool demeanour in the face of heat wasn’t anything too
hard.
But I knew deep down, underneath the whole façade, he had been at my mother’s grave. That had been the only possible assumption.
“So you really don’t know how you got this?” I asked.
He shook his head. “Not at all. What plant is this?” He asked curiously.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at the act he was putting on. I could feel myself deflate just a little. Here I was, getting my hopes up that had prepared those flowers for my mother today.
I thought I’d been so closer to finding out the whole truth behind it. And yet, it felt like all it had led to was a damn dead end.
