Chapter 66
Askhan and Quentin had fought in the past before. It wasn’t a surprise that there was still a bit of bad blood between the both of them.
Askhan turned to me. “Why didn’t you tell us that you couldn’t shift?”
There was a small look of sadness in his eyes as he waited for an answer. A part of me didn’t know what to say. How would it sound if I said I didn’t speak about it because I didn’t want things to change?
I didn’t want to be treated like some fragile egg when I was perfectly capable of doing things myself.
A sad smile washed over his face. “You didn’t want anyone worrying about it, did you?”
I let out a breath, slowly nodded my head. To his credit, he took that in stride, not really fussing
about it.
Quentin was silently watching the whole scene with his arms folded. His face was an unreadable
mask as he watched us.
He didn’t look like he wanted to fight Askhan. I could almost see the look of boredom in his eyes before he looked away.
“I want you to know that we are here for you,” Askhan continued. “You don’t have to worry or hide
anything from us anymore. We’re here for you. Now and always.”
I couldn’t help the small smile that found its way to my lips. When Askhan opened his arms, I gladly went into the embrace, letting myself relish in the comfort of the hug.
The small rumble in my chest made my smile grow wider. Askhan had a way of comforting me in
the moments I needed it.
“Of course that’s all you had to say.” I let go of Askhan and turned to see Quentin glaring at Askhan.
He looked pissed now. “I brought here safe and sound and that’s all the bullshit you have to spew.”
“Say that again to my face.” Askhan crossed the distance between them, glaring at Quentin coldly.

“You. Are. Spewing. Bullshit.”
I was still yet to find where Quentin got all that audacity from. He didn’t look fazed by Askhan’s status at all, staring back at the prince with all the indifference he could muster.
“Bastard.” Askhan cursed under his breath.
“Would you both stop it please? I don’t want you to fight.” I said to them, inwardly snickering.
They didn’t bother with a reply, too focused on glaring at the other. Quentin eyed him up a bit before letting out a scoff.
“If it’s so easy, then why weren’t you there to protect her?”
“Oh believe me, I would have been if I knew she was there.” Askhan retorted.
They continued to glare at each other while I sniffled. Quentin dared to spare a glance at me. Coincidentally, Askhan did so at the same time.
“Wow.” The words left Askhan’s lips in a prank.
Quentin let out a sigh and put a hand over his face. The jig was up. Judging by the looks on their faces, they must have found out.
“Good one, Thea. Just wonderful.” Quentin said blandly, not looking the slightest bit amused.
I shrugged, a playful smile making its way to my lips. Askhan turned back to Quentin, his eyes lingering on Quentin’s collar. He must have noticed the lipstick stains on it.
When he turned back to me, the pieces seemed to fit in his head. “What the hell, Thea?”
Without another word, he grabbed my hand and dragged me to the car. I spared one last glance at Quentin just before Askhan gently pushed me against the car. In this position we were shielded from the prying eyes of the crowd that had gathered.
As soon as he was sure we were no longer in the eyes of the many people that were watching, he
turned back to me.
His body was very close to mine, borderline pressed against me. The intense look in his eyes sent a shiver down my spine.

“What happened on that plane?” He pressed on.
I leaned my head to the side. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
He sighed in frustration, leaning closer to me. “Will you tell me or not?”
I pretended to think on it for a while. “Say please, and maybe I will.”
“Oh yeah?” His voice seemed huskier for some reason.
I hummed, trailing a finger down his chest. His breath seemed uneven now, his face an unusually
red colour.
For some reason, the space seemed smaller all of a sudden. Askhan’s body felt warm against mine. His eyes dropped down to my lips and then back to my lips again.
My hands slowly trailed back up to his neck. He swallowed before slowly leaning closer. Our faces were barely inches away when the sound of approaching footsteps made me pull away.
For a second, I thought it might be Quentin.
