He opened his mouth to speak again, but I whipped my hand hard across his face. All of this, I did
with a calm look on my face.
I expected him to look angry when he finally turned to me, maybe even react or lash out at me. Instead, there was something different in his eyes.
Excitement.
It was a primal look that flared up in his eyes. Throughout the dessert, he’d been all calm and collected. Now I was getting to see such an intense look in his eyes.
There was a bit of a challenge in his eyes. The longer I stared into them, the more I felt they were slowly drawing me into their deep pools.
“Come on, Thea.” Askhan grabbed my hand. “Let’s get out of here.”
I didn’t bother arguing with him, simply grabbing my purse and letting him lead us away. A part of me felt tempted to spare one last glance at Quentin but I restrained myself.
When we reached the place where Quentin had been standing, I turned back and noticed something. From Askhan’s perspective, it must have looked like I and Quentin were kissing back when he had
wiped the cream off my face.
The misalignment of light and shadow would have given off that impression and anyone standing here would have rightfully assumed that.
As we made our way out of the restaurant, I couldn’t help but stare at Askhan. A part of me wanted
to tell him the truth, clear what ever misunderstanding he must have had in his head
The other part of me was tired and didn’t want to bother. We were simply chatting, and if he couldn’t ask me about it, then it wasn’t worth bringing it up.
I followed Askhan for a while as he led us away from the restaurant. The silence was deafening and at some point, I couldn’t take it anymore.
“What made you come here?” I asked. “It’s literally the middle of the night and you thought to come looking for me?”

He didn’t say anything in reply, simply into his pocket and bringing out his phone. After scrolling through something, he handed it to me.
It was the latest email he had received. According to it, Olavir had found a solution for the Death
Grass in his research lab and was going to send it to me immediately.
“I wanted to tell you right away but the guards told me you left the palace.” He said in a calm voice.
I couldn’t help the smile that made its way to my face. At long last, it seemed I would finally
overcome this problem I’d been struggling.
My mind went back to Quentin’s appointment at the restaurant. Had it really been all for hype? Back
when we were in the plane, he had reprimanded Claire just for me.
He didn’t favour Claire despite the fact that she was working for him and even stood by me when I
needed it the most. He had chosen to stay by my side and stick with me.
I looked to Askhan as he gently put his trench coat over me. “Don’t think about him. He’s just a
businessman. The only thing that matters to him is maximizing profit. It’s pretty obvious what
matters to him and it’s not feelings or beliefs. He doesn’t even respect the Moon goddess and that
should tell you enough about him.”
He’d somehow realized that I was thinking about Quentin and was now doing all he could to comfort
me in the way he knew best.
“How did you know?” I asked, unable to hide my surprise.
He had a small smile on his face. “Call it intuition.”
Without another word, he leaned close to me and pressed his forehead against mine. It was a simple gesture, yet I felt a wave of warmth wash through me.
This was the most honoured Alpha Prince. The only heir to the Alpha King. And he was choosing to
take my side.
“Mommy, mommy. Wake up.”
Early rays of sunlight pierced through the curtains and washed over the room. A small groan left my lips as I opened my eyes.
As everything became less blurry, Emma’s figure came into view. She jumped excitedly, shaking all the sleep out of my eyes.

“Wake up, Mom.”
“It’s so early, Emma. What’s wrong?”
I stretched my limbs just a little before pushing the blankets aside. Emma took that as her chance to throw herself into my arms.
“Mom. Come read me the Luna fairy tale story. Pleaseee.” She shook my arm excitedly,
I said a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess, feeling the exhaustion run through my body. “Can’t we do that later in the day?”
Emma shook her head. “No. I want it now, Mom. Just one story. Please.”
Looking at the way Emma kept making demands with a cute face, I remembered what people around me had once said about me: Thea, you’re such an arrogant and capricious princess!
Moon Goddess! Please prove to everyone that there’s already a princess who’s even more willful and imp–like than me!
I let out a sigh. “Just one story.”
She let out an excited squeal and ran to bring the story book. That was how I spent the morning reading the Luna fairy tale to her. It wasn’t the first time she was hearing but she was always so
excited when it came to that.
Just as she left the room, the door swung open and someone barrelled in. A wolf to be precise. One I recognized all too well.
