Chapter 77
Haelor noticed the look on my face, his head whipping to where the sound must have come from.
A female voice started to speak. “Your highness, I-”
“Did I ask for your opinion?” Askhan’s voice was cold and emotionless, “I asked you to find Princess Thea. Fail to do that and I promise you won’t want to know the consequences.”
That did not sound like the soft Askhan who would never be the slightest bit harsh to me. That was
His Royal Highness Prince Askhan speaking.
They were just over the fence that demarcated the fence from the other part of the palace. Without a word, I grabbed Haelor’s arm and began to back away.
“Thea?” He looked at me in surprise.
“We have to leave.” I whispered, taking a quick glance back at the fence.
His eyes flicked to the fence for a brief moment before he turned back to me. There was a look of
understanding in his eyes as he watched me.
With that, we stealthily left the garden using the secluded exit. I led him towards somewhere I knew we wouldn’t really be bothered by anyone.
When the Luna lake came into view, my shoulders sagged in relief just a little. Haelor had a look of amusement in his eyes as we inched closer to the lake.
“You still haven’t told me why you’re running away from Askhan. Or why he’s looking for you so much.” Haelor said, helping me down towards the steep trail that lead to the lake.
I winced. “I think you saw for yourself part of the reason.”
Haelor nodded just a little. “Say less.”
I noticed how his head whipped around ever so often, his eyes being on alert too. He had no idea
that I could shift now. I had my wolf back.
Maybe that was why he seemed so protective of me. I didn’t question it or try to complain, simply

leaning into it and letting it happen.
Getting to see Haelor in this light felt…nice. He was sincere and there was a sense of innocence to his demeanour. Along with being genuine.
I felt I could stay in his presence for the whole time and it wouldn’t be the slightest bit bored.
Occasionally, Haelor would turn to look at me. There would be a dust of colour on his cheeks
whenever I would catch him staring.
“Come on,” I pulled on his arm and guided him to the edge of the lake.
Letting go of his hand, I slowly sat down, patting the spot beside me. He chuckled lightly before proceeding to do the same.
I turned away from him, admiring the glow of the moonlight against the glistening water. It felt peaceful to be here, away from all the hassles of the ball or the Alpha Palace.
“Are you cold?” Haelor’s voice broke my thoughts.
I noticed it was oddly chilly this night and my shoulders were trembling very lightly. Without
waiting for a reply, Haelor took off his coat and draped it over my shoulders.
“Thank you.” I sent him a smile.
He simply nodded and turned his gaze back to the lake. For a while we simply sat there in
comfortable silence, enjoying the warmth of each other’s presence.
“Haelor?” I called out to him.
He hummed out a reply. I pointed at the lake before turning to him. “Is the legend true?”
“What legend?” He asked curiously.
“That there are mermaids at the border who sing like angels. I’ve heard rumours of that. Is it true? Is
their singing really that good?”
Haelor stared at me incredulously for a while before chuckling. I pouted, pretending to be annoyed
by the fact that he was angry.
“It’s just a rumour, Thea.” He smiled. “But if you want, I’ll do everything within my power to find you
some mermaids. Would you like that?”

My cheeks warmed and I whipped my head back towards the lake,
There was a look in his eyes, like somehow I’d hung up the stars in the sky. My heart raced the longer I stared into his eyes.
I couldn’t help the laugh that left my lips. When did 1 become so pare? It was all Ilarions. Hacker smiled, watching me while I continued to laugh.
“Well,” I wiped some stray tears from my eyes. “I’ll let you know if I need those fish peoplet
“Of course,” He chuckled.
When the laugher had died down, he turned back to look at me. “It’s nice escaping from the party and all that stuff, but who’s taking care of Emma?”
I froze. I’d been so preoccupied with getting away from Askhan and everything else in the palace that I hadn’t considered whether Emma would be okay,
“I have to go back,” I got up abruptly, “I need to know who’s taking care of Emma and if she’s okay”
Haelor got up from the floor and dusted his pants. “Let’s go now.”
My heart thrummed against my chest as he hurried back to the party.
I said a silent prayer to the Moon God for Emma’s safety. Just when we entered the palace, I spotted the last person I wanted to see.
“Look who it is.”
Bella made her way towards us, a sneer on her lips when her eyes landed on me and Haelor’s
intertwined hands.
She raised her eyes back up to mine. “You’re really shameless, aren’t you? Can’t even seem to leave men alone for a single moment.”
The smirk never left her face as she inched closer to me. She’d been waiting for this moment, and
now was her time to begin her onslaught of taunts.
“Seducing different men, everyday? You disgust me.”
