Chapter 78
Bella was a woman who prided herself on being really beautiful and of high intelligence. On top of that, she belonged to a high family, giving her the aristocratic value that so many other women could only envy.
Sadly, she was actually dumber than she gave herself credit for. And very obvious too. Looking at her, it was pretty clear that seeing me and Haelor together had ignited her jealousy.
“Well, got anything to say for yourself?” She still had that sly grin on her face as she eyed me from
head to toe.
I felt my hands tighten into fists by my side. There were a lot of things I could take, but it definitely wasn’t taunts and attacks at my character.
“So I am right then,” she scoffed. “Go sit with yourself and change your ways, Emma. It’s not ideal for a woman to whore herself around. Unless…”
She paused, a glint flicking behind her eyes. “I’m not surprised. After your failed relationship, it’s no surprise that the only way you can cope is by being a whore.”
Haelor had a murderous look in his eyes as he watched Bella. Ever since we were kids, I’d always been good at picking up Haelor’s mood changes.
This was one of them. And if care wasn’t taken, he would make her regret everything she was saying. His eyes read murder as he took a step forward.
I pulled him back, making him briefly turn to him. “I need you to relax for me. Okay?”
He stared for a while, his eyes softening just a little before he nodded. My hand remained interlaced with his, never quite letting go of him.
Bella was watching everything, a look of anger and jealousy on her face. She couldn’t even be more
obvious if she wanted.
“What’s wrong?” I asked innocently. “Jealous?”
She glared at me before clicking her tongue. “Like hell I’d be jealous of someone like you.”
“Oh?” I snaked my arm around Haelor’s arm before resting my head on his shoulder.

It was obvious by the look on her face that she was boiling just by looking at us. I grinned slyly, not letting go of Haelor for the slightest second.
“Wait,” The smile on my lips grew. “You don’t have a crush on Haelor, do you?”
Her eyes immediately flicked to Haelor and her cheeks became the colour of a tomato. She stuttered
over her words as she tried to explain.
“It’s not–I d–don’t…”
“But I remember you have a mate, don’t you?” I continued in an innocent voice. “Publicly betraying your bond just lie that is a great offense before the Moon God and he won’t take it lightly with you.”
The look on Bella’s face was priceless. It was pretty obvious she had been caught in headlights. Her
face had paled as she processed my words.
She probably didn’t know whether she would really be punished by the Moon God. The guilt was
very evident on her face just looking at her.
I opened my mouth to say something else when the words got caught in my throat. Standing there at the top of the stairs was none other than Askhan.
He had a cold look on his face as he looked down at us. Haelor stared back at him with the
indifference of a general who had nothing to fear.
Bella on the other hand cowered under the weight of his stare. His eyes weren’t even fixed on her.
They were focused solely on me.
“Thea,” He calmly said, making his way down the stairs till he was halfway down.
I turned to Haelor who had a look of concern in his eyes as he watched me. I sent him a nod, silently saying I’d be okay. It was just Askhan. Nothing to fear.
“Askhan,” I replied coolly, detaching myself from Haelor.
“Come to the ball.”
I shook my head. “I think I’ll pass.”
“It’s not a question,” he insisted. “The Queen Luna is waiting for you. She wants you before her.”

On any other day, I would have found a way to refuse Askhan’s request but not when the order had come from the Queen Luna herself.
All instincts in my body screamed to obey and I knew then, that I had no choice but to oblige. Just before I went up the stairs, I sent one final glance at Haelor.
He nodded his head, a form of silent solidarity. I nodded back and turned to Askhan, making my way up the stairs to meet him.
His eyes went over me for a brief second before he led us into the palace. The palace had been
decorated just for the ball.
The chandelier glistened with a certain brightness that bathed the whole room with a warm glow.
Askhan lead us into a private area jut overlooking the whole expanse of the ball room.
I spotted the Queen Luna sitting in her chair. A small breath left my lips when I spotted Emma in her
arms.
As soon as Emma’s eyes landed on me, she let out an excited squeal. She jumped off the Queen and
threw herself into her arms.
“Mom, where have you been?” She asked, her voice filled with excitement. “We had sooo much fun.”
I laughed. “I’m glad you had a wonderful time, sweetheart.”
I turned to the Queen Luna who was watching our interaction with an amused look in her eyes.
“Forgive me for being late, your majesty.” I bowed my head. “Thank you for taking care of Emma.”
“There’s nothing to thank me for, Thea.” She smiled. “It’s my responsibility to take care of any puppies in the pack. You might have that responsibility too.”
