Chapter 79
There was a knowing look in her eyes as she said that last part. I had a hunch of what she might be hinting at.
I’d always known that Askhan is the most competitive Alpha Prince of the Alpha King. He was already in his twenties but didn’t have a mate yet. That was the only thing getting in his way as heir
to the throne.
The sound of footsteps made me turn my head back just in time to see Haelor walking. Had he
overheard our conversation?
I turned back to the Queen Luna, unsure of what to say at her suggestion. It didn’t help much that there was an expectant look in her eyes.
Luckily, Haelor came to the rescue. He took a step forward and saluted the Queen Luna. She responded with a small nod of her head.
“Forgive me but I overheard a bit of your conversation on my way here.” He bowed his head just a
little before going on.
“Thea just ended a bond of intrigue and betrayal. She’s still trying to cope with the aftermath of everything. I believe she needs time to heal at her own pace.”
The Queen Luna nodded thoughtfully at his words. My hands tightened by my side. While I appreciated him stepping up for me, I had to say something as well.
“I don’t want to think of relationships for a while.”
One of her eyebrows raised. “Really?”
“Yes, your majesty.” I nodded. “The only thing on my mind right now is developing my own career.”
Seconds passed as the Queen Luna silently watched me. For a moment, I wondered what she would say. If there was a way to read minds, I’d gladly grab up that opportunity if it meant I’d have an inkling of what was going through her head.
Then ever so slowly, the smile on her lips widened. “I understand what you mean, Thea. Never would I think of forcing you into something you wouldn’t want.”

The smile tugged at my lips, a small weight leaving my shoulders. I’d initially been worried about my decision upsetting her but it seemed there hadn’t been anything to worry about.
“Thank you.” I beamed.
She nodded her head, a soft look in her eyes as she continued to watch me. I became all too aware of
Askhan’s gaze on me.
When I turned to look at him, the first thing that hit me was the softness in his eyes. Being the focus
of his attention made my stomach flutter.
This wasn’t the Askhan who had coldly ordered the maids and servants to look for me just a little
over a while ago. This was Askhan, my friend and someone I held very dear to me.
Without saying a word, he gently reached for my hand. His eyes never wavered as he placed a kiss
on the back of my hand.
“May I have the honour of a dance with you, Thea?” he asked.
I nodded my head, allowing him hold my hand firmly in his. He shared one last glance with the Queen Luna before leading me out of the small booth and towards the center of the ballroom.
The whispers and hushed murmurs came immediately as all attention turned to us. I ignored most of them, choosing to fix my focus solely on Askhan.
He held on to my waist while I put a hand over his shoulder. My other hand remained entwined in his as we slowly swayed to the soft tempo of the classic music that played in the background.
“You look gorgeous, Thea.” He grinned, cheeks dusted with a rosy colour.
I felt my cheeks warm at his words. “Thank you.”
We continued to dance, oblivious to the watching eyes that surrounded every part of the room. When our cheeks came were barely an inch together, Askhan sent me a playful wink.
“I could watch your face all day and that would be the peak of contentment for a man like me.”
I smirked. “Is that your way of saying your obsessed with me?”
“I won’t tell a lie,” Askhan’s eyes glinted with mischief. “You’re far too desirable for me to think of doing that.”

As we continued to dance, I caught Haelor’s figure standing at the far end of the room. A part of me wanted to get a better look at Haelor.
When I tried to turn my head to him, Askhan swayed us to the side, blocking whatever view of him I
could have gotten.
I tried again, but he continued with that, blocking every single one of my attempts to get a better
look at him.
At some point, I fixed a pointed look at him, wondering why he was suddenly asking like this. A sigh of relief left my lips when the song finally ended.
“Well then,” I was about to head towards Haelor when Askhan’s grip on my hand tightened.
“Come on,” Askhan smiled. “There’s something I have to do first.”
