Chapter 99
For a mumem, Icouldn’t help but stare back into Askhan’s eyes. Then suddenly he was being shot at, blood spurting out with a painful thud.
My band trembled as I touched my cheek, feeling the warmth of his blood as it had splashed my face.
as he hit the floor
“Thea.”
A small gasp left my lips as I focused hark on Askhan. He hail a look of concern in his eyes as he continued to watch me,
“Is everything okay?” He asked, brows furrowed in concern.
I nodded my head, trying to force a smile onto my Eace. I had no idea where that had come from but it didn’t make me feel any less overwhelmed. Something was wrong, and I could feel it in my gut.
Die
My body acted before 1 realized it. I pulled Askhan behind me just as a gunshot rang through the room. The whole place fell into chaos as everybody ran for their lives.
The Gamma warriors immediately went into protective mode, trying to maintain order while simultaneously guarding the prince.
“Stay close. Thea.” Haelor said, taking a spot close to me.
Quentin did the same and with that, I had three men surrounding me in a protective circle. I opened my mouth to tell them I was fine but pain shot through my arms before I could even muster the strength to talk,
The last thing I remembered before blacking out was Harlor yelling out my name as I fell to the ground.
Pushing my eyes open took more strength than I realized. A small groan left my lips as I tried to sit up.
“Hey, hey.” Askhan gently guided me. “Relax okay.”
I looked around, noting Quentin, Haelor and Olavir who were carefully watching me. With a bit more effort, I managed to sit up, leaning my hack against the pillow
“Are you okay?” Olavir asked, “How do you feel now?”
“It’s just my arm that hurts.” I winced when I tried to move my hand. “I should be fine soon enough.”
There was a look of desperation in Olavir’s eyes as he watched me. I wondered if the rest of my brothers had gotten wind of this. I was with the three men back then at party.
They still didn’t know I could turn into my wolf. Well, Askhan knew at least. I had to keep up the act
I groaned again, this time louder than before. Quentin’s eyes squinted in my direction for a moment.
There was a knowing look in his eyes, and that did little to ease my nerves. Shit. He must have realized it already.
1 glared at him in anger before turning back to Haelor. He looked caught up in his self–loathing and didn’t seem to have realized anything just yet.
“I should have protected you even more.” He sighed. When his eyes raised up to meet mine, I noted the pitiful look laced behind them.
“If you’ll allow me, I’d like to take care of you, Thea. At the very least, before I leave for the border.”
“Like hell I’d let that happen.”
We all turned to look at Askhan who had a look of displeasure on his face. He sent Haelor a withering glare before turning back to me.

“The Alpha Palace is the most fortilled place in the whole kingdom. On top of that
call, Thea. That’s the ideal place for you to stay.”
Land servants avadable at your beck and
“Well, your highness, Haelor said mockingly. “She might not want the opulence and overbearing leury of the palare My home in perfectly okay and no doubt up to Then’s taste. I see nothing wrong in taking care of her every step of the way ”
“Oh please. Spare me all that talk and accept it for what it is. The palace is safer for her. End of discussion” Akhan folded hi
“You don’t get to decide that for her.” Haelor’s eyes narrowed on the prince,
One of Askhan’s eyes twitched. “Oh yeah?”
Quentin who had silently been watching their argument finally cleared his throat after a moment. He fixed them a pointed look before turning
“Thea’s already awake. It’s not like she’s unconscious as we speak. Why not ask for her own opinion? Isn’t that right, fragile princess?” Quentin was calm but I could pick out the hint of sarcasm laced in them.
I made a point of ignoring it and focused on the words he’d said. Regardless of whether he had been sarcastic or not, I liked the fact that he had expressed his respect for me.
I turned to Clavir. “I want to go back home.”
A small smile crept over his lips at my words. Askhan immediately turned to Olavir, a frantic look in his eyes as he shook his head.
“You have to see reason to what I’m saying, Olavir.” Askhan piped up. “Thea got hurt trying to save my life. If anything. I have a moral obligation to keep her protected, and the best place to do that would be the palace”
“I believe she’s made her choice already.” Quentin snapped at him in a cold tone.
Askhan’s eyes darkened as he stared down Quentin. They both stare at each other for what felt like eternity.
