This project was vital for Stella’s promotion, salary, and future with Diane.
Despite her marriage to Nathaniel, his indifferent attitude made her plan for herself.
After hesitation, Stella decided to reach out. Although she wasn’t familiar with Nathaniel, she knew all client relationships started this way.
Then, she opened Nathaniel’s WhatsApp chat.
[Mr. Beaumont, are you free now?]
Without getting any reply, Stella thought Nathaniel might be busy.
Half an hour later, she messaged him again with a picture of his business card.
[Mr. Beaumont, do you work for the Dalla Technology Group?]
A minute later, Nathaniel’s simple reply popped up on
screen.

Stella was afraid of wasting Nathaniel’s time, so she simply
asked straight to the point.
[You’re interested in my boss?]
[Yes.]
Everyone valued the critical client.
After a pause, he replied: [He doesn’t like your kind.]
Stella looked at the chat and didn’t react for a while.
“Huh? What does ‘my kind‘ mean?”
Lost in thought, she caught her reflection in the window and suddenly got his point.
Her most standout feature was simply being a woman!
[Got it!]
[…] Nathaniel replied with a speechless ellipsis.
[Don’t worry, your boss’s secret is safe with me.]
To reassure him, she added,
[It’s a new era, he shouldn’t worry so much.]
Then, Nathaniel ignored her directly..

Stella pouted, confused by his sudden cold shoulder.

Nathaniel put down the phone gloomily in the Dalla Technology
Group.
“What’s Stella thinking? That I’m into guys?” he thought angrily.
“Mr. Beaumont, shall we continue the meeting?” Carlos asked softly.
Snapping back, Nathaniel realized he had wasted three minutes on Stella.
It was boring.
“Go on,” he said expressionlessly.
“Mr. Beaumont, the Woya Company wants to partner with us. They’ll send a banquet plan next week,” Isaac Griffin on the left said.
“Woya Co.?” Nathaniel echoed, recalling Jennifer praising Stella, Woya’s top planner.
Immediately, he grasped Stella’s aim.
She wanted to use his position at Dalla Tech to secure Woya’s partnership!
Look! Gold diggers sure are cunning!

However, Nathaniel was curious to see what plan Stella could devise.
“Mr. Beaumont, is there a problem?” Isaac asked carefully.
“No. Go ahead.”
Nathaniel’s cool demeanor cast a serious air in the conference room, keeping everyone on their toes.
An hour later, the meeting wrapped up. With Nathaniel’s wave, they all rose.
All men.
Nathaniel’s mind oddly drifted to Stella’s misconception of his preference for men.
He tapped his forehead with his fingers and glanced at Carlos.
Carlos immediately stepped forward.
“Mr. Beaumont.”
“Recruit more female employees.”
“What?” Carlos blurted, stunned.
“Just do it,” Nathaniel said calmly.
Upon hearing this, everyone in the conference room was stunned.

Their boss, notorious for insisting on keeping the numbers of men and women in the office exactly the same, had changed his mind!
“Roger that, Mr. Beaumont!” they all chimed in.
Stella stared at her silent phone and then put it down.
It was better to rely on herself than on others.
She started researching, but tech was new to her. She found it confusing, even after reading the articles.
On this day, nothing was written except the Dalla Technology
Group.
It wasn’t until Christina reminded her that she realized it was
almost 5 pm.
Christina stood beside her desk, stared at her computer, and surprisedly said, “Stella, haven’t you come up with a plan yet?”
“No.” Stella sighed.
Christina immediately got anxious like a cat on hot bricks.
“Stella, you can’t lose to Sandra! She has always targeted you. If she becomes the deputy director, you will definitely suffer!”

“Take it easy,” Stella said as she stood up and packed her things.
“Sandra’s followers said she has got inside info on Dalla Technology Group!”
“Already?” Stella was stunned.
“Her uncle has connections there. They’re even planning her promotion party,” Christina whispered.
Hearing that, Stella frowned, but it was useless to be anxious. She would not give up until the end.
“Don’t think too much. We’ll know the result after the proposal is submitted.”
“Okay, let’s go.”
Christina immediately began to chat with Stella about other things.
After getting out of the elevator, Stella was surprised to receive a call from Jennifer.
“Ms… Jennifer, what’s wrong?”
“Stella, did you move in with Nathaniel yet? Just checking he didn’t scare you off,” Jennifer half–joked.
“No worries, Jennifer. I stick to my promises. I’ll get packing asap.”

Stella knew Jennifer cared about her marrying Nathaniel. Still, she wondered what Nathaniel was thinking.
She could tell Nathaniel didn’t like her.
“Just be safe. Call Nathaniel if you need anything,” Jennifer said, sounding relieved.
“Will do,” Stella replied, then hung up.
She hailed a cab home, skipping food to move before dark.
At home, she quickly packed her essentials, work outfits, and comfy clothes.
Before leaving, Stella glanced around her home, luggage in tow.
A family photo on the wall showed her, flanked by her parents, beaming.
Sadly, those happy times had come to an end.
She touched her father’s portrait on the desk.
“Dad, rest assured. I’ll save Mom. And I’m married, but not to Jack. He didn’t deserve me. My husband is… is a handsome programmer. Trust me, he’s good.”
As soon as she finished speaking, her phone rang, displaying an unknown number.
She hesitated, then answered to Jack’s scolding.

“Stella, how dared you report me? Do you know how much I went through to avoid going to jail?”
Stella rolled her eyes, thinking, “You should be the
conc.”
“Jack, I have made it clear yesterday. We’re done.”
“Stella, you were jealous, weren’t you? It was my fault before. I was blinded. But I had good intentions. I was worried about Bonnie’s illness and afraid it would end badly. You know I still love you” Jack said.
“What about you stealing my money to buy a car? It was left to me by my father before he died!”
“It’s all about the money, right? I just can’t bear to see you spend all your money on your mother’s treatment. Besides, isn’t our marriage money shared?
“Stop dreaming and pay back the money quickly! Don’t call me again.”
“Stella, don’t be like this. I really care about you,” Jack pleaded softly.
Stella, annoyed, gripped her phone, wanting to end it.
“Jack, I don’t get it, and I don’t care!”
Fed up, she hung up and blocked Jack’s number for good.

Meanwhile, she heard footsteps behind her. Stella turned around and saw Nathaniel open the ajar door.
“What are you doing here?” She asked in surprise.
“Mom asked me to get you,” Nathaniel said, his voice flat.
“Hold on. Need to check the windows and stove.”
She retreated into the kitchen, a ploy to hide her fluster.
Nathaniel glanced at the house with a cold expression.
It was old but well–situated. Small, yet valuable.

He thought Stella should be happy with what she had, not marry him for money.
Soon, Stella came out of the kitchen, lugging two suitcases.
“All right. Let’s go.”
“Hmm,” Nathaniel responded coldly.
Noticing her struggle with the suitcases, he took them from her.
Despite his disdain for Stella, he wouldn’t make a woman’s life harder.
“Thanks,” Stella said, watching her luggage disappear into his grip.

Ignoring her, Nathaniel headed for the elevator.

Feeling his cold shoulder, Stella shrugged and followed him silently into the elevator.
Stella, emotionally drained and starving, managed to stumble to Nathaniel’s car.
She stepped forward, wanting to take her suitcases from Nathaniel.
“I can do it…”
But then, she fainted, falling heavily into a warm embrace.
