Chapter 14
I sent out a new job offer to my previous company.
I didn’t hear back from them, but my former boss reached out to me instead.
“Have you had the baby? No, that can’t be right. It’s only been six months, hasn’t it?”
I replied, “I’m divorced.”
There was a moment of silence on the other end. “Come to the office tomorrow. I want to see if pregnancy has dulled your skills.”
I was stunned for a second, then jumped up in excitement.
I grabbed my bag and headed to the nearest mall. My old clothes didn’t fit anymore due to my changed figure, so I had to pick out a few new outfits for work.
Back home, I didn’t idle. I reviewed all the information I had gathered once more.
Finally, I went to bed, brimming with confidence.
Perhaps I was too excited; I tossed and turned for ages, unable to sleep.
I remembered feeling the same way six years ago, fresh out of college – nervous yet thrilled.
Back then, Dave had laughed at my eagerness, calling me unsophisticated. But now, I was on my own.
I slapped my cheeks lightly. Why was I thinking about him again?
I needed to throw myself into intense work, to forget him as quickly as possible.
