Chapter 15
Experience does count for something. It didn’t take long before I was completely in sync with the company’s rhythm
again.
I worked hard every day, socializing or relaxing after work. My life as a single person was fulfilling.
Turns out, being alone isn’t so bad.
Except for work hours, all my time was my own. I had much more freedom than before.
Perhaps it was spending time with younger colleagues, but I gradually felt younger myself.
I joined them hiking, picnicking, gaming, clubbing – crying, shouting, and laughing freely.
Slowly, I began to forget about David Brooks and Emily.
Until six months later. I was in the kitchen preparing ingredients, planning to enjoy some hot pot while watching a show on this cold night.
That’s when I saw David through the window, standing downstairs.
To be honest, I wasn’t surprised he’d found me here.
The Brooks family might not be top–tier tycoons, but they’re certainly well–connected in City Heights.
Our eyes met, and he waved at me.
lignored him and continued sorting the vegetables.
Snowflakes suddenly started drifting outside.
I saw David stamping his feet and blowing on his hands to keep warm.
After pondering for a while, I put on my coat and went downstairs.
It wasn’t out of concern, but I didn’t want him freezing to death outside my building. That would be bad luck! David’s eyes lit up when he saw me, and he ran over.
“What do you want?” My tone was cold.
He tried to grab my
this anymore.”
and, but I stepped back. “Whatever you have to say, just say it. You’re a married man now. Don’t do
His expression darkened, and he lowered his hand. “Emily’s about to give birth.”
“Hmm, congratulations?”
Seeing no change in my expression or further response, he continued, “Once she has the baby, I’m going to divorce her.” “We’ve been married all this time, but I’ve never shared a bed with her. If it wasn’t for my mother forcing me, I would have…” I cut off his rambling. “Stop. You don’t need to report these things to me. This is between you and Emily. It has nothing to do with me.”
His eyes reddened. “Nono, do you really not have any feelings for me anymore?”
“I can’t believe you’re so cold. Our ten years together – how can you just let it go so easily?”
that I’ve

“Nono, I don’t mean anything else. I just want to tell you
only ever loved you. In my heart, you’re my only wife.” “If you don’t want children, we won’t have any. If you don’t want to see Emily’s child, I’ll let the baby live with my parents… I’ve cut ties with all those other women. Please come back? I really can’t live without you.”
I shook my head. “I used to think you were my everything too, that I couldn’t live without you. But these past six months, I’ve realized that without you, I can still live on my own. In fact, I’m living better.”
“David Brooks, we can’t go back. You need to learn to let go.”
“Since you’ve married Emily, make it work. Don’t come looking for me again.”
With that, I went back upstairs without even looking at David’s expression. That night, David stood downstairs for a long time.
After that, I never saw him again.
