Dave’s voice carried a hint of anger, “Is this really necessary? It was just a fling with her, and those words were said
carelessly. Do you have to blow everything out of proportion?”
“Besides, what man doesn’t stray occasionally? If you weren’t pregnant and off–limits, I wouldn’t have sought out other
women.”
“But don’t worry, my children can only come from you. I won’t let anyone else get pregnant.”
These repulsive remarks made Dave seem like a stranger to me.
He gripped my chin, “Relax, no one can threaten your position as Mrs. Brooks. Once you’ve had the baby, we can go back
to how things were before, okay?”
I found it all bitterly ironic.
He actually thought all I cared about was my position as Mrs. Brooks?
Dave seemed to have forgotten the promises he made when he was pursuing me.
He said he’d love only me for a lifetime, never cheat or mess around with other women.
But then again, men often take for granted what they’ve won.
Especially given Dave’s current status, with hordes of women lining up to climb into his bed.
Even if he could resist for a day or two, could he really hold out for a year or two?
Particularly when I’ve gained weight during pregnancy, the contrast between home and outside is too great. For him,
cheating was just a matter of time.
I was the fool who believed that because we had love, he would be faithful for life.
I forgot that time erodes love and changes hearts.
