Selena was all about tending to the wound, barely paying attention as she replied, “Which comment? The one where you called me a bastard?”
“Or was it the part about me being good for nothing?
“Or maybe the bit where you said I’m blind and can’t tell right from wrong?”
Everett gritted his teeth, staying silent!
Once Selena wrapped up the wound care, she tidily put the ointment and swabs back in the first aid kit, closed it, and calmly wiped her hands with a disinfectant wipe. Finally, she added with a casual air, “If you’re talking about that, well, I think Grandpa nailed it
Everett, possibly too riled up to speak, just kept quiet. But when she tried to get off the bed, he suddenly pulled her into his arms.
Caught off guard, she found herself spun around and gently laid back down. Selena looked up at him, wide–eyed, her hands reflexively pushing against his chest, trying to keep her cool as she spoke. “What are you up to?”
Everett’s dark eyes held her reflection, and he spoke softly. “I was referring to Grandpa’s suggestion that we should hurry up and have kids.T
Ever since they tied the knot, he’d been dead–set against having kids. Just the mere mention would set him off, and he’d warn her not to even go there.
He just brought it up himself, so what on earth was happening? Was the world turning upside down??
Selena raised an eyebrow, questioning, “Weren’t you the one who didn’t want kids?“}}
She had always been keen on the idea. It wasn’t just about creating a love child with the man she adored; it was about her own longing. She yearned for a child of her own blood, so she’d never feel alone.
Everett gazed at her, his brow furrowed, struggling with his thoughts before he finally spoke, sounding resigned.
“If having a kid is the only way you’ll be happy, and it makes Grandpa happy too…” He took a deep breath, like he was bracing himself, and said. “Then let’s have one.”
Selena was taken aback. She never thought she’d hear him agree in this lifetime, yet here it was, happening out of the blue.
For three years, they’d been at each other’s throats over this. When Margot flaunted their love online, she became more restless and unhappy, leading to fiercer fights.
She always felt like a child was the main hurdle between them. Solving this might mean he’d settle down, cut ties with Margot, and she’d find security in their marriage, without feeling on edge all the time.
After all this back–and–forth, Everett finally agreed. She thought she’d be thrilled, but at this moment, she felt none of that joy. She even found it a bit ridiculous.
And she did laugh, her tone carrying a hint of irony. “You’re really pushing yourself, huh?”
The thought having a kid with his lawful wife had him looking like he was heading to the gallows.X
Everett’s frown deepened. To him, this was a huge concession, yet she still had this sarcastic attitude.l
A shadow crossed his eyes, realizing more talk would just rile him up. So, he decided to stop the verbal sparring and leaned in to kiss her
This time, Selena was ready, turning her head so his kiss landed on her cheek. Instantly, she shoved him away.B
“Don’t touch me!”
Just like before, it wasn’t some game of playing hard to get, nor was it a playful tease, but blatant resistance, mixed with anger.
