Killian Volkov
As I stored out of the meeting hall. I couldn’t help but replay the events in my mind. Adeline’s fierce determination, her intense stance. It all fueled my anger. I still couldn’t believe what saw back in the meeting room Adeline West. She had changed so much. The timid, scared, and wolf–less girl I once knew had transformed into a woman with such confidence and grace. There was a strong aura around her that made everyone around her stop and take a look at her. The way she carried herself with such grace and the determination in her eyes–it was something I hadn’t seen before.
It took me by surprise.
The first time I saw her again after four years at that restaurant alking to Laurel, I was completely taken aback by her transformation. She was beautiful, more radiant than I remembered. There was a glow to her face, a glow that had been absent during her tane in the Silver Moon Pack. She had built a successful empire, Moonluxe, all on her own. It was unbelievable. And yet, here she was, standing tall and fighting fiercely for her children. It was like she had found a part of herself that was hidden when she was with us in the Silver Moon Pack.
Back then, Adeline was always timid, always hiding in the shadows, trying not to draw attention to herself. She was wolf–less, which made her vulnerable in the pack. I remember how she worked around the house and back at the office, quietly. But now, she has turned into this independent, confident woman who’s also a strong mother.
It was unbelievable.
And yet, it was there in front of me. I couldn’t forget the way she confronted Laurel, the fire in her eyes, and the motherly protectiveness that radiated from her. She was like a lioness fighting for her cubs, and I couldn’t help but feel impressed by her. But that didn’t mean I didn’t hate her. I did hate her. The betrayal I felt was still fresh, still raw. But it was clear she hard changed. She was no longer the girl who needed protection; she was a woman who could protect herself and her family
Laurel had told me about Adeline’s supposed affair with Sebastian, and looking at Adeline now, I couldn’t shake the feeling that she had run to her lover right after our divorce. For years, the image of her tearful face and the self–doubt about my judgment towards Adeline haunted me. But seeing her now, I hated myself for ever believing otherwise. She had been living her life happily with Sebastian, even having children with him. When Laurel first told me, I was shocked and didn’t believe her, but seeing Adeline accuse Laurel of hurting her kids made me realize Laurel was right about everything
I don’t know why, but my hatred for her grew even more. How dare Adeline? How dare she have another man, even though she was still my mate? I could still feel the bond between us even after four years of rejection and all? Can’t she feel it? How dare she have an affair, even though she was still bound to me? My head was a mess, and I blamed my wolf for it. He kept pushing at me, yelling in my head to support Adeline, our mate over Laurel, that she was not lying about Laurel.
Damn you, Bastian!!
Darn you too!! Why are you adamant on believing Laurel? She lied to us for four years and looking at all the evidence our mate has provided; it looks like Laurel is behind the attack. My wolf, Bastian replied.
I believe in her and support her because it’s my responsibility. She’s pregnant with my child and it’s my duty to protect my unborn child and laurel. I replied back, angrily.
Fine! Believe her all you want, but I will never believe her.
Bastian said.
Laurel followed me to my office, calmly, though I could see the worry etched on her face.
“Killian,” she said softly, placing a hand on my arm. “You need to calm down. We can’t let this affect us.” She added.
I took a deep breath, trying to control my emotions. “I’m fine, Laurel. I just… I can’t believe the audacity of her. How dare she?” I said, the memory of her smiling at Sebastian while he held her hand, talking to her with such love and affection in his eyes. I didn’t like it. I hated it.

Laurel’s eyes softened, and she gave me a reassuring smile. She just trying to provoke you, to get under your skin. Dont let her. She said.
I nodded, though my anger was still simmering just beneath the surface. Laurel is right. Why am I bothered by it! I don’t care about her, nor do I care about her affair! She’s only proving that she indeed had an affair with Sebastian and ran to him. right after our divorce.
“You know, I can’t take this anymore. The accusations. it’s too much.” Laurel’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned to her and saw her sitting opposite to me, with tears rolling in her eyes.
She looked up at me, her eyes filled with desperation. “Do you really believe me? Do you trust me?” She asked.
I hesitated, the doubt still gnawing at me. Looking at all the evidence provided by Adeline, I was unsure what to believe. “I want to believe you, Laurel. But there’s so much evidence against you.” I said.
“You think I’m guilty, don’t you?” She asked, her expression hurt
I shook my head, frustration bubbling up. “I don’t know what to think anymore. This whole situation is a mess.” I said,
Laurel’s eyes filled with tears again. “I thought you loved me, Killian. I thought you trusted me.”
“Laurel,” I sighed. “I really need to know the truth. Are you behind this? Did you orchestrate the attack?” Tsaid, leaning over
the desk.
Her tears spilled over, and she shook her head. “No, Killian. I didn’t. I would never hurt anyone, especially not a child. You know me.” She said, tears streaming down her eyes while placing a hand over her belly. “I’m going to be a mother soòn, why would I try to harm a child?” she added.
1 sighed, leaning back in my chair. “I will support you Laurel–it’s my responsibility.” I said.
I should, but there’s this doubt, this nagging feeling at the back of my head.
She leaned over, her voice trembling. “Please, Killian. You have to trust me. Adeline is trying to take revenge on me. She’s the one lying, not me,” she said.
I closed my eyes, trying to push away the doubts. Adeline has always been a bigger liar than Laurel, Maybe she’s trying to cause harm to Laurel, taking some kind of revenge.
Laurel began to cry, and I stood up, crossing the room to console her. I wrapped my arms around her, whispering soothing words. “It’s going to be okay. We’ll get through this” I said, hugging her. “You should go home and rest” I added.
“Thank you, Killian. I just want this nightmare to end.” She nodded, her sobs quieting.
After she left, I sat back down, my mind still a storm of conflicting emotions. I was trying to convince myself that Adeline was the one at fault, that she was trying to destroy everything I had built with Laurel. But the nagging doubt persisted.
What if Adeline’s right?
What if Laurel indeed attacked Adeline and her family?
