“What nonsense are you spouting? Who is this disrespectful girl?” Byron trembled with rage, unaccustomed to such bold defiance from a younger person.
Olivia remained composed, facing Byron, whose face had turned pale with anger.

“Silence at the table is golden, and here you are, babbling away in the presence of your father, the elder. Where are your manners?”
To those in the know, she was highlighting that Daxton was Byron’s elder. To others, it might seem as if she was claiming to be Byron’s parent.
“Shut your mouth! This is the Moore family. Do you think you have a say here?” Byron had never seen a woman so audacious in their household. Has she lost her mind?
“Your father invited me to dine. Ever heard of friendships that transcend age? In terms of seniority, you should address me politely! When elders are speaking, what business do the younger generation have interrupting?” Olivia dismissed Byron as if he were nothing.
She had researched the Moore–family and knew of Daxtonr’s shortcomings. His affair, barely concealing it from his wife’s influential family, only to rush to legitimize his mistress shortly after his wife’s demise. If not for Daxton’s threat to cut ties, Byron might have succeeded.
How did the decent Daxton and Benjamin end up with such a character in the family?
“Look, how are you raising your kid? Does he not know to keep quiet when adults are speaking?” Olivia scooped some pudding, her disdain for Byron evident.
The casual Look caught Daxton off guard, reminding him of a time decades past.
“Yes, you’re right,” Daxton smiled slightly, appreciating Olivia’s handling of Byron.
“Can’t even greet his elders properly! No respect!”
Byron, utterly confused, thought, “What is going on?”

Her condescending attitude was enough to make forty–something Byron’s blood boil.
“Dad, have you lost your mind? Why engage with such a young girl? What transcendent friendship? What merits does she have to be your friend?” Byron had thought he was confronting one of Benjamin’s lovers, only to find the tables turned on him.”
As Daxton was about to respond, Olivia interlaced her fingers under her chin, her smile mocking as she watched Byron.
