But no one around her dared to bring her one. Liliana, who was once the epitome of elegance and beauty, now looked utterly wretched.
In a panic, she tried to get out of bed herself, but her cast–covered legs and the pain from her injuries made her wince and grimace with every move.
“Liliana! Don’t move around like that! I’ll get you a mirror,” Elowen said, unable to bear seeing Liliana so distraught. Reluctantly, she handed Liliana a small mirror.
When Liliana saw her reflection, she could hardly believe her eyes. The woman in the mirror had a face full of bruises, her cheeks swollen to the point of distorting her once–delicate features. Her perfectly aligned teeth were now missing a front tooth.
In that instant, Liliana looked as though she’d been struck by lightning.
She had been pampered by the Kenneth family her entire life, held in the highest regard, and had never been in such a humiliating state.
“Liliana, the doctor said your facial injuries will heal with time, and we’ll find the best dentist to fix your teeth…” Elowen said, her heart aching as she watched her daughter rendered speechless by the shock.
She glanced at Brody, silently urging him to say something reassuring as a doctor. Brody stepped forward and examined Liliana’s injuries.
The bruises, swelling, and minor abrasions didn’t appear to be serious.
However, as he was about to offer comforting words, he noticed something unusual.
While Liliana stared into the mirror, small blisters began appearing on her skin at an alarming rate, right before his eyes. The blisters itched terribly, and Liliana instinctively touched one.
It burst instantly. Yellowish fluid sprayed out.
Where the fluid landed on other parts of her face, new blisters quickly formed.
Within minutes, her face was almost completely covered in blisters. The intense itching made Liliana scratch uncontrollably.
Brody quickly grabbed her hands to stop her.
“Liliana, you can’t scratch!”
Where Liliana had scratched, the mixture of yellow fluid and blood created grotesque wounds that looked terrifyingly infected. Even Elowen was horrified by the sight.
“What’s happening? How can Liliana be getting chickenpox at her age?”
Brody squinted at the blisters.
“No… this isn’t chickenpox…”

Her piercing screams echoed through the room, making Elowen’s heart pound with fear.
As Liliana thrashed about, yellowish fluid seeped from her wounds.
A nauseating stench from the fluid began to fill the room.
