As if remembering something, Olivia added, “Oh, right. Your face? That’s payback for hiring someone to disfigure me. And about those fake rumors you spread with bots on Twitter… Smile for me first.”
Liliana had no idea what Olivia meant, but as soon as Olivia finished speaking, her laptop’s camera flashed.
Liliana froze, a terrible premonition forming in her mind.”
“I told you to smile. Look at how hideous your expression is now,” Olivia sighed.
Moments later, a new email arrived in Liliana’s inbox.
Attached was a photo of Liliana–her current, festering grotesque face captured in perfect clarity by her laptop camera.
Seeing the photo, Liliana let out a blood–curdling scream.
“Olivia! I will never forgive you! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!”
Olivia chuckled. “It’s good to have dreams.”
–With that, she hung up.
Furious and desperate to destroy Olivia, Liliana suddenly began to laugh.
“Olivia, I thought you were smart… but you’re just an idiot, aren’t you?”
She glanced at the email Olivia had sent, then at the recording on her phone.
This time, Liliana was certain she could put Olivia behind bars. She transferred the recording to her laptop, ready to save all the evidence. But just as she thought she had Olivia cornered, something went
wrong.
Her computer started behaving erratically, no longer responding to her commands. Realization dawned on her as she remembered the camera flash earlier–Olivia had more control than she’d thought.
Her computer, as if infected, automatically saved all the photos Olivia had sent. Then, before Liliana’s horrified eyes, it opened Twitter and began uploading the images.
“No! Stop! This can’t happen!” Liliana screamed.
Frantically, she tried to shut the computer down, but it was no use. As the upload completed, she grabbed. the laptop and slammed it to the ground with a loud crash.
The screen shattered, but the damage was done. Even through the cracks, ‘Liliana could see that the tweet –including all the incriminating photos of her disfigured face–had been successfully posted.
Moments later, all her emails were deleted, and the recording she’d saved on her laptop disappeared. In her panic, Liliana reached for her phone, clinging to the hope that the original recording was still there.
But as soon as she picked it up, the file vanished before her eyes.
Olivia’s voice emerged from the phone.
