Lucas paused, momentarily confused, while a trace of a meer flickered in Hudson’s eyes.
“Olivia, you’re overthinking this. Hudson began calmly.
Sophia looked up at Hudson, her tear–streaked face resembling a fragile flower, a sight many boys found irresistible. Surely, no man could resist her. Whenever she played the victim, men would rush to comfort her.
But then Hudson added. “I don’t even know this classmate. Why would I be interacting with her?”
His words left Sophia’s carefully crafted look of sorrow frozen in place.
Lucas scratched his head. I don’t really know her, either…
Sophia was surprised with the result of her actions. Wait a minute! Why isn’t this going as I had imagined? Shouldn’t they be chastising Olivia for being petty and then comforting me?
Sophia was utterly unprepared for her charms to fail so completely today.
Leaning lazily against the wall, Olivia glanced at Sophia, who now resembled a clown. Without lifting a finger, Sophia had already embarrassed herself beyond repair.
Bored with Sophia’s poor acting, Olivia proceeded to invest the money she won last night, about ten thousand dollars, into the same stock she had purchased previously.
Just then, a few young men entered the brokerage firm. Seeing Olivia confidently buy shares in a stock that was plummeting, they looked incredulous.
“Seriously? Someone’s buying this trash stock?”
“Girl, are you burning money it?”

As they joked, one of them spotted Lucas nearby.
“Hey, Mr. Thompson, you’re here too?”
Lucas vaguely acknowledged them with a nod. He had no clue about stocks, but from the way these guys were talking, it sounded like Olivia had made a terrible choice.
“My friend bought this stock. Is there an issue with it?” he asked.
One of the young men laughed. “Issue? It’s a sinking ship! The company’s about to go bankrupt.”
Lucas looked at the stock chart. The price had indeed been dropping, though there was a slight recent
