Chapter 2
Alex’s job was one my family helped him secure; he likes to boast about his talent, but he was unemployed for two years. And I, too foolish to see through him, actually fell for his sweet words. I begged my family to use their connections to get him into this company. If
doesn’t appreciate it, then he doesn’t deserve it.
“Hello, Mr. Thomas.” I greeted him sweetly. Mr. Thomas, seeing me, warmly invited me to
sit and offered tea.
“Here to see Alex? Oh, he’s not in today,” he said.
Smiling, I replied, “Not exactly.” Gently tucking a stray hair behind my ear, I put on my most composed, graceful look. “I just wanted to let you know that Alex won’t be able to work overtime tonight.”
As Mr. Thomas looked puzzled, I pulled out a small speaker and played a pre–recorded video of Alex’s passionate moments with his mistress. The sounds quickly silenced the entire office. I offered an apology to everyone present.
“Sorry, everyone. Alex is busy cheating and won’t be able to make it in for overtime. I’m here to apologize on his behalf for the inconvenience.”
As I finished, my cousin appeared and set up a large poster board at the office entrance, featuring blown–up photos and screenshots of Alex’s chats. The first gasp of shock triggered a wave of murmurs around the room. I turned to Mr. Thomas, bowed slightly, and said, “Apologies for the trouble today.”
Waving it off, he replied, “You’ve been wronged. I’ve known your father for years–rest assured, I’ll make sure you get justice.”
I managed a few tears for sympathy, wiping them off as soon as I left.
My cousin asked carefully, “What’s next?”
I tied up my hair, smiling. We drove straight to the mistress’s apartment complex. My

invited friends were already there, ready to go, spreading out and hanging banners And Posters around the neighborhood. The lead volunteer pulled out a loudspeaker and began,
“Alex Wright, Emily Hill, may you two cheaters be blessed with a long life and many
children.”
Soon, people poked their heads out of windows, and my phone started buzzing with calls. I blocked Alex’s number and then sent photos of the scene to the family group chat.
Me: Busy matchmaking. All is well.
Mom: Be safe, and let your cousin stay with you.
Cousin: Already on site.
Dad: I spoke with Robert Thomas. Alex has been terminated. The driver is waiting at the gate to pick you up. Head home when you’re done.
That gave me all the confidence I needed. If he dared to betray me, he’d face the consequences. No holding back–just let the madness loose.
Another call came in. “Hello?”
“Ophelia Evans, are you out of your mind?” Alex’s voice came through, barely holding it together.
“Oh? Aren’t you supposed to be working overtime?”
“Ophelia, cut the act! Do you know you got me fired? I worked so hard for that job, and you’ve ruined everything! How could you be so heartless? I totally misjudged you! Now go and fix this, and I might forgive you!”
I actually laughed. I’d spoiled him to the point where he dared to yell at me. I hung up and
sent Emily a message.
“Hang in there, girl. Though your lover won’t stand up for you, you must believe he truly
loves you.”
Emily’s responses poured in, full of anger.
“Ophelia, how dare you slander me in my work chat? I’m going to sue you!”

“You old woman! What’s so great about you? Just your rich family! You trample all ofer others‘ dignity–no one would ever want a venomous woman like you! Get ready to die
alone!”
Old and venomous–I smiled as I scrolled through the parent group chat, watching the two
of them unravel.
Parent: Emily, a teacher??? How is this woman even allowed to teach?
Are
rent: Disgusting. How can a morally corrupt person like her get hired? This school has serious issues.
Parent: This is the person looking after my kid every day?? Imagine what she’s teaching
them!
Parent: Principal, fire her now!
Parent: Yes! Tomorrow we’re all going to the school–we need answers!
