“Get the hell out!” Ruben threw his phone at his friend.

A week later, after Ruben was discharged from the hospital, he showed up at my door again, holding a contract in his hand.

He hung up, but then several more calls came in one after another.
He answered the phone and put it on speaker, his voice impatient.
