Chapter 10
I couldn’t help but laugh at his playful tone.
By the time we returned, our purchases filled not just the trunk but the entire back seat.
Mark was waiting at home, holding our cat and sulking dramatically. Any tension left from Nathan’s visit dissolved in laughter.
On our wedding day, Nathan and Sophie showed up at the ceremony. This time, they were
invited.
Nathan’s leg was still in a cast, and he leaned on Sophie for support. Several security guards stood nearby to prevent any disruptions.
I gave James a questioning look, but he shrugged. “Having them watched is the best way to keep them from causing trouble.”
My brother scoffed. “That’s your excuse for being devious.”
During the ring exchange, a commotion erupted from their side. Nathan shoved Sophie, causing her to hit her head on a table corner, drawing blood. He didn’t even spare her a glance.
It reminded me of Sophie’s welcome–back party, where he’d burned me with hot soup and ran after her without a second thought.
As he struggled to stand and shout, security guards held him down, muffling his voice.
The wedding bells drowned out his outburst as joy and laughter filled the air.
After the ceremony, I walked over to them. Looking at the disheveled Sophie, I calmly asked, “Now that you’re really seeing me, do we look alike?”
Sophie stared at me for a long moment, then broke into bitter laughter through her tears. “Does it matter? He never truly loved either of us.”

Nathan glared at her. “Don’t lie! I did love you, but that was in the past. Now it’s Olivia
love. You shouldn’t have come back. You ruined everything. You’ve always been between
me and Olivia!”
I replied simply. “Nathan, stop lying to yourself. I’ve been in your study.”
He stared at me, speechless, before collapsing to the ground, utterly defeated.
James took my hand and led me away.
After a few steps, he leaned close and whispered, “Hurry up, people are waiting to start the wedding night celebrations.”
I tugged at his arm playfully, but he just grinned and lifted my hand for a kiss.
As for Nathan, I later heard he blamed everything on Sophie, seeking revenge in every way possible. Pushed to her limit, she eventually snapped and crashed her car into him, leaving
his already injured leg permanently
The Carter family, unwilling to forgive Sophie, drove her to desperation. She jumped from the top of Carter Corp’s building, ending her life.
With one heir crippled and facing criminal charges, Carter Corp’s stock plummeted. eventually collapsing under pressure from competitors.
James made a call to ensure Nathan’s life was spared.
Seeing my confusion, he explained, “When I make a promise, I keep it. I said he’d get to watch you be happy for the rest of your life, so he can’t die too soon.”
I stood there, speechless..
My brother was right this man really was calculating.
But I knew he would give me the steady happiness and peace I deserved.
