Chapter7
The day of the press conference arrived quickly.
Behind the curtain, Robert extended his left arm slightly, and I naturally slipped mine
rough his. Together, we walked onto the stage.
The moment we appeared, the previously noisy venue went silent for a few seconds before a curious reporter broke the tension.
“Isn’t this Miss Margaret and Mr. Robert? Did you two walk into the wrong event? Today is supposed to be the press conference for the founder of Butler Group!”
The crowd burst into laughter.
Anticipating such a reaction, I had already arranged for Lily, Butler Group’s secretary and a well–known figure in the business world, to explain.
“The people beside me are none other than Miss Margaret Butler, the founder of Butler Group, and Mr. Robert of Butler Group.”
This revelation silenced the room instantly. Lily’s credibility within the business circle left
no room for.doubt.
I picked up the microphone at a leisurely pace and smiled warmly.
“First, I’d like to thank all of you for coming today. I apologize for introducing myself to you in this way–I am Margaret Butler.”
The questions poured in immediately.
“Miss Margaret Butler, we didn’t expect you to be the founder of Butler Group. Are the recent rumors about you true? And why did you choose now to reveal yourself?”
“I’ve always preferred to work behind the scenes. The reason I’m hosting this press conference today is not only to introduce myself but also to clarify a few things.

Chapter 7
First, Jacob and I share a father–daughter relationship–nothing more, nothing less. As for the mansion–well, do you really think I couldn’t afford to buy it myself? Rumors are just rumors, but let’s not let them spiral out of control.
With the media here as witnesses, I, Margaret Butler, declare that since leaving the Barnes family, I am my own person and have no further connection to them. For those spreading defamatory rumors, if this does not stop, I will have my lawyers file lawsuits against the individuals responsible.”
Paving received their answers, the reporters moved on to questions about the company’s future plans and developments. Once everything wrapped up, I stepped off the stage.
Out of nowhere, a figure rushed toward me, prompting Robert to instinctively shield me
behind him.
“Margaret, you’ve been hiding this all along! Why didn’t you tell me you were Margaret Butler?” Christian’s eyes were bloodshot, his expression one of both accusation and regret.
Robert, recognizing Christian, looked at him with disdain.
“Good thing she didn’t tell you. If she had, how would she have realized you’re such trash?”
“This is between me and Margaret–what business is it of yours?”
“She’s my fiancée. You’re a nobody, so what are you even talking about here?”
“You-”
Christian’s attempt to argue was no match for Robert’s sharp tongue.
“Robert’s right,” I said coolly. “Whether or not I told you changes nothing. It only proves that your interest in me was always about my status. Besides, you’re with Gianna now–stay loyal. Don’t keep doing things like this, leaving one for another. It’ll shorten your life.”
Christian’s eyes lowered, a shadow of despair crossing his face.
“I’m sorry, Margaret. Back then, Gianna kept feeding me lies, saying you treated her poorly, and I fell for her manipulations out of pity. I couldn’t see her true colors until now.
