Chapter9
Robert clearly hadn’t fully processed what had just happened. He stood frozen for a
moment before bursting into a delighted laugh.
efore I could even fully enjoy the moment, my adoptive father’s phone call came through. He said there was something important he needed to discuss with me and asked me to
come home.
As soon as I walked through the door, I saw my adoptive father slap Gianna hard across the
face.
“Do you even realize what you’ve done? Your sister already said that land wasn’t to be invested in! You stole the company’s seal–do you know how much damage you’ve caused to
the company?”
Gianna, looking completely wronged, protested.
“How was I supposed to know? It’s all Christian’s fault! He’s the one who manipulated me. Now I realize I was wrong, and I’ve cut ties with him. What more do you want from me?”
“Christian is someone you forced away from your sister, and now you want to cut ties just like that? How are we supposed to explain this to the Torres family? Get out! From today on, I, Jacob, will pretend I never had a daughter like you.”
As their argument raged on, Gianna finally noticed us. Her eyes were red, and she pointed at us, crying out.
“Make me leave? Is that what you want? You’ll take her back, but I’m your real daughter! Yet, you only acknowledge her, your adopted daughter?”
Jacob looked down in silence, his expression heavy.
“Fine, don’t regret it later.”
With eyes full of hatred, Gianna stormed out of the house.

During this time, my adoptive father seemed to age rapidly. He waved for me to come over
and handed me a contract.
A stock transfer agreement.
“Margaret, your father is getting old. I no longer have the energy to manage the company. You’re a capable and good child. I can only feel at ease if I hand the company over to you.”
After saying this, he smiled with contentment and patted Robert’s shoulder.
“Robert’s a good kid too. You two look great together. If you get married, tell your dad first. Remember, this will always be your home.”
I nodded slightly, my eyes misting over. At that moment, I didn’t even know what words could express how I felt about them.
But deep down, I knew they were my closest family, and I would protect them for the rest
of our lives.
What I didn’t expect was that just a few days later, disaster would strike.
The last time I saw my adoptive father was when I received a call from my adoptive
mother.
“Margaret, you need to come to the hospital. Your dad… he’s not going to make it.”
By the time arrived at the hospital, my father was in critical condition.
In that instant, something inside me felt hollow, and my head throbbed with pain.
When I saw Jacob for the last time, he still looked at me with loving eyes. But now, all I could do was watch his lifeless body lying cold and still.
My adoptive mother cried until she fainted from the strain.
Later, when the police arrived to take statements, I learned it was Gianna who had done it.
She had left for less than a day before returning to apologize to her parents and beg for forgiveness.
They were kind hearted people and never once thought their own daughter could bring
Gianna had taken advantage of Jacob’s trust, secretly poisoning the medication he regularly Innls By the time anyone realized what had happened, it was too late.
I went to the place where Gianna was being held, When she saw me, her eyes filled with bury, and she laughed wildly at me.
Well, how does it feel? The old man is dead, isn’t he?”
I screamed in anger, barely able to control myself,
“He was your biological father!”
