Chapter 13
Jorge looked at me without thinking there was anything wrong with the suggestion from his
friends,
My buddy wants to see it, so just show them. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back.”
His voice was so confident that it made me feel like drinking, a little wouldn’t be a big deal.
One glass of red wine went down, and a wave of heat mixed with discomfort and itchiness
hit me.
I looked at Jorge for help, but I couldn’t say a word,
He didn’t even glance my way, following his friends as they sang and danced.
In the end, if the waiter hadn’t noticed something was wrong and called me just in time,
I might have already been in serious trouble.
After that incident, he never apologized.
It was our first cold war, but in the end, he didn’t apologize.
Instead, he shifted the blame, saying, “This is the limit for you? Looks like you can’t handle much after all.”
His gaze was like ice, and though my heart hurt, I still chose to let it go.
Just hold on a little longer.
Isn’t it normal in a relationship for one person to bow their head more often?
It’s fine if that person is me.
I don’t mind.

But do I really not mind?
That’s a thought only I knew at the time.
That night, Liam was taking me to a banquet.
He had told me about it more than a week in advance, and asked me to pick out an outfit.
Then, based on the clothes, he helped me choose matching jewelry.
What I didn’t expect was that I’d run into familiar faces at the banquet.
Jorge had a cold expression, his arm around his ‘current girlfriend.‘
They were talking with a strange woman, who was smiling and chatting with his ‘current girlfriend.‘
“I heard Liam’s back. You should really seize the opportunity.”
“Of course, we’ll be like sisters soon, and if we’re sisters–in–law, how great would that be?”
Hearing this, Jorge’s face darkened.
His gaze kept following me, making me feel uncomfortable.
It was the kind of intense possessiveness, like everything he thought was his was being taken away by someone else.
This banquet was of some help to Liam’s company.
I stayed quietly by his side, listening to their conversations. As I watched Liam being surrounded by admiration, I increasingly felt the difference between him and Jorge.
They were two completely different people.
No need for comparison.
This time, I could truly treat them as separate.
Noticing that I looked a bit tired from standing, Liam led me to a corner to eat.
He also introduced a few dishes, saying they were particularly good.
“I haven’t eaten anything sweet in a long time.”
Mom always said that girls have a natural fondness for sweet food.
Eating a little bit of sweetness would keep my mood cheerful
But Jorge disagreed: “Things like that, with high oil and sugar, will make girls fat. You
would eat less.”
“You don’t want to be the only one with a big frame when all the other guys‘ girlfriends are
slim and fit, right?
Seeing me lost in thought, his expression became impatient:
“Forget it, eat if you want. Who can stop you?”
After that, I rarely ate sweets.
I picked up a piece of mousse and brought it to my mouth. “Aren’t you worried I’ll get fat?”
Liam smiled. “I’d actually prefer that. Being too thin is unhealthy, putting on a little weight is good for girls.”
He moved a little closer, taking my hand and poking his own arm, his voice low enough only the two of us could hear:
“I’m a man with normal strength, so don’t worry. I can carry you.”
Then he picked out a few more things for me to try, but his work colleagues quickly surrounded him.
Everything he picked was something I liked.
After just a few bites, I noticed a waiter hurrying by in my peripheral vision, carrying no tray, but holding a glass of wine.
That glass of wine ended up in Liam’s hand.
