Chapter 4
Calvin thought we met by chance during our university’s anniversary celebration, but he didn’t know the truth. In reality, I’d been his benefactor all along. Our encounter wasn’t tate–it was my plan. I never expected that, with just one look, Calvin would start pursuing e so intensely. Although I wasn’t a fan of relationships with younger men, his consistent
care eventually won me over.
After that incident, Calvin seemed to accept my explanation, but there was a noticeable distance between us. I could sense he still had doubts. The night before I planned to reveal my identity, I received a message from Calvin on my other WhatsApp account: “Miss Wright, I want to surprise my girlfriend. Could I borrow your villa in the countryside?*
Looking at his message, I erased the confession I’d just typed. Delighted, I replied, “Of course! Just make sure you and your girlfriend have a great time.” I decided I’d use that occasion to reveal everything to him.
But within ten minutes, I received another message from one of Calvin’s colleagues. “Bianca, did you and Calvin break up? Lately, he’s been awfully close to his new secretary–you might want to keep an eye out.”
An hour later, I arrived at his office building, and even before stepping inside, I spotted a familiar figure in the lobby. When the person turned around, I froze. It was Daisy–the same Daisy I’d seen fired just days before. Now, dressed sharply in a professional suit, she smirked with a look of disdain.
“What are you doing here?” I demanded.
“Why, Mr. Taylor hired me, of course! Thanks to you having me fired, I now have this new job.” Daisy’s tone turned flirtatious. “Plus, it gives me a chance to see Calvin every day.
People were coming and going, so I chose not to cause a scene. I headed toward the elevator, ready to confront Calvin. But just as I stepped forward, Daisy grabbed my arm, her sharp nails nearly digging into my skin. Reflexively, I shook her off, and she fell to the floor with a loud thud, spilling coffee all over herself in a pitiful mess.

At that moment, the elevator dinged, and Calvin’s voice emerged. “Bianca! What are you doing? This is too much!” He rushed past me, bumping my shoulder against the wall so
hard I could barely stand.
“Mr. Taylor, it seems Miss Wright doesn’t want me working here. I don’t want to affect your relationship, but… I have nowhere else to go,” Daisy whimpered, clinging to his arm. “Could
you ask her to accept me? If she agrees, I’ll stay by your side.”
Calvin frowned, helping her up, and glared at me coldly. “This is my company, my employees. I can hire whoever I want. Bianca, you’re overstepping.”
His words felt like knives piercing my heart. “Calvin, how could you take her side like this…”
“Mr. Taylor!” Daisy interrupted before I could finish, acting as though she’d just received urgent news. “The company board members are here for inspection. Better clear these people out quickly!”
I watched in disbelief as Calvin dismissed the kind woman trying to steady me. “Calvin… my back hurts… I leaned against the wall, showing weakness for the first time, hoping he’d show some compassion.
“Bianca, I was just promoted at work. Can’t you be a little more understanding, like Daisy?” He paused, sending me a transfer of five hundred dollars. “Here, get yourself checked by a
doctor.”
That’s when it hit me–just yesterday, the company had promoted him to vice president, an opportunity he never would’ve had if not for me. Yet here he was, acting as if he owed me
nothing.
I listened to the whispers around me, taking mental notes of each face. Little did they know, standing before them was the very company director they’d never seen in person.
