I hadn’t been at the company for more. than a week when the anonymous mail arrived. It was an ordinary envelope, with no name, no return address–just my name written in messy handwriting.
As I unfolded the letter, my heart started to race. It was a short note, but its contents. left me frozen in place.
[What happened to you wasn‘ t an accident. The brakes of the car were tampered with. Watch your back.]
My breath hitched as the words sank in. My hands trembled, gripping the paper tighter. All this time, I had thought it was a freak accident, an unfortunate event that had taken the life of my child. But it turned out it was intentional. Someone had wanted.
me dead.
I sank into the nearest chair, my mind. racing. That incident replayed in my head

like a broken record. If I hadn’t been a she–wolf, my body would have never survived such a crash. Despite my healing abilities, I hadn’t been strong enough to save my baby. My child… gone in an instant.
There had been too much to deal with–the hospital, Landon‘ s indifference, his betrayal of Daisy. I had buried my pain so deep that I hadn‘ t processed the loss. But now, knowing someone had intentionally caused it, my blood boiled with fury I hadn’t felt in years.
The only person who would benefit from my death was Daisy. I didn’t want to jump to a conclusion, but the more I thought about it, the more it all pointed to her.
Days turned into weeks as I began to dig. Unexpectedly, I received an anonymous document. I opened it cautiously, my pulse quickening as I began to scan the detailed report. It was all there–the specifics of how the brakes had been tampered with,

and clear evidence that the failure was no
accident.
Sure enough, my hunch was right. Daisy had been trying to get rid of me from the start, and now I had the proof I needed. I could finally take her down and expose her for what she had done.
Just as I was about to put the document in the drawer, something strange happened.
The paper began to heat up in my hands, and flames licked across the surface, devouring the paper with an unnatural speed. Within seconds, the entire document had been reduced to ash.
Since the evidence was gone, I racked my brain to think of another way.
I wasn‘ t even sure if Landon had known about it or if he had been another one of Daisy’s pawns. But at that moment, I
didn’t care. They had both betrayed me and now, it was time for payback.

I knew Landon’s company inside and out -his strengths, his weaknesses, his secrets. And I was going to use it all against him. If Daisy thought she could take everything from me, I was going to show her what real destruction looked like.
I spent hours each night piecing together a plan.
It started small, little hiccups in Landon’s finances that no one noticed at first. But
then, as I began to leverage my insider knowledge, those hiccups turned into cracks. I knew where the money was going, who the key investors were, and exactly how to pull the rug out from under him. I began siphoning information to his competitors, weakening his market position, and slowly but surely, his empire. began to crumble.
Watching it happen was almost satisfying. Every time I heard whispers of Landon losing a contract or an investor pulling out, I felt a spark of grim satisfaction. I

imagined Daisy, clinging to him as the walls of his world started to fall apart. She‘ d latched onto him for his wealth, his power, and now it was slipping through her fingers. The thought of her breaking down, watching the life she’d manipulated to get, fall to pieces, brought me a small, twisted sense of justice.
The corporate event was my first opportunity to confront him. I had been invited as part of my new role at his rival company, but I had a feeling that seeing me there would send Landon into a spiral.
When I walked into the venue, dressed in a sleek black dress, I felt his eyes on me immediately. He was standing near the bar, a glass of whiskey in his hand, his eyes narrowing as I made my way across the room. I could practically feel the anger radiating off of him as I approached.
“Callie,” he said through gritted teeth as soon as I was within earshot. “What the hell are you doing here?”

I met his gaze, refusing to back down. “I
work for your competitor now, Landon.. Didn’t you hear?”
His jaw tightened, and I could see the muscle ticking in his cheek. “You need to quit. Right now. This isn’t a game, Callic. You don’t know what you‘ re getting into.”
I raised an eyebrow, my voice steady. “Is that so? Or is it that you can’t stand the idea of me succeeding without you?”
His eyes darkened, his hand tightening around his glass. “You don’t belong here,” he hissed. “Come back to the company. I’ll give you your old position. back. This little stunt you‘ re pulling won’t last.”
A bitter laugh escaped my lips. “You really think I’d want to come back after everything? After what you did to me?” My heart pounded, but I held my ground.
“You betrayed me, Landon. You weren’t there when I needed you the most. And

now you have the nerve to demand I quit?”
He took a step closer, his voice low, almost threatening. “You don‘ t understand what you‘ re dealing with, Callie. This isn’t just about you and me. There are bigger things at play.”
