My heart raced, but not out of fear–out of sheer frustration. I had told him, over and over again, that it was over, but he refused. to believe me. He wouldn’t let go.
“Let me go, Landon,” I said firmly, yanking my arm back. But his grip only tightened, his eyes darkening as he stared at me, as though by sheer willpower he could stop me from walking away.
“You think you can just leave after everything we’ve been through? After five years?” he spat, his voice rising. “You‘ re mine, Callie. You don‘ t get to just walk away.”

I opened my mouth to snap back when a familiar voice cut through the tension.
“She said to let her go,” Amir growled, his voice cold and controlled, but there was an edge to it that warned of the danger beneath.
Landon’s grip on my arm tightened, and he shot Amir a glare. “This isn‘ t your business, Amir,” he spat. “This is between me and Callie.”
“She is my business,” Amir said darkly, stepping forward. His eyes flicked to where Landon’s hand still held me, and his voice
lowered, barely a whisper but deadly. serious. “Let. Her. Go.”
The air in the room grew thick with tension, and I could feel the shift between them, a storm brewing just below the surface. I tried to pull my arm away, but Landon wasn’t budging.
“I loved her first,” Landon snapped, his voice shaking with frustration. “I made. mistakes, but I won‘ t lose her to you.”

Amir’s eyes narrowed, his muscles
tensing as he stepped closer. “You lost her the moment you chose yourself over her.”
His words seemed to trigger something in Landon. Without warning, he lunged at Amir, his fist connecting with Amir s jaw in a solid punch. The impact made me gasp, but Amir barely staggered, his eyes flashing with fury as he wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
His eyes glimmer and I could see his claw. stretch out.
“Amir, no!” I shouted, my voice
desperate as I threw myself between them, grabbing onto his arm just as he was about to swing his hand at Landon. His claws
were aimed to kill, and I couldn’t let that happen. Humans shouldn’t be aware of our
existence.
“Stop!” I cried, my voice shaking. “Amir, please… stop.”
Amir froze, his eyes softening as he looked

at me, his chest rising and falling with rapid breaths. His claws retracted slowly, and I could feel the tension drain from his body, though his anger still simmered beneath the surface.
When I turned to Landon, I noticed hist rage seemed to fade, replaced with something else. Hope. Delusion. He looked at me like he thought this meant something.
“You still care, don‘ t you?” he said, his voice softer now, his gaze locked on mine.
“You wouldn’t have stepped in if you didn’t. You‘ re just angry, Callie. This… this is all because of Daisy, isn’t it? You’ll get over it. We can fix this.”
I stared at him in disbelief. How could he
still not get it?
“This isn’t about Daisy,” I said slowly, my voice barely hiding my frustration. “I just fell out of love.”

his face. “No, it’s not,” he muttered, shaking his head. “You‘ re just upset. You’ll come back. You always do.”
I sighed, feeling the exhaustion of it all weighing me down. How many times did I have to say it? How many times did I have to break his heart before he finally understood that my feelings for him had already been shattered long ago?
“No,” I said quietly, my voice steady. “I’m not coming back. Not this time. I don‘ t love you anymore.”
The words hung in the air, and for the first time, I saw something crack in Landon’s expression. He stared at me like he couldn’t comprehend the truth like the ground had been ripped out from under him. In his heart, he still believed that five years together couldn’t crumble
overnight. That I wouldn’t actually leave.
him.
But he was wrong.

I turned to Amir, who was watching me closely, his eyes filled with concern.
“Let’s go,” I said, my voice was firmer
now. I was done with this and I didn‘ towe him any more explanations.
Amir nodded, stepping forward to lead me away, but Landon wasn’t finished. He reached out, his voice filled with
desperation. “Callie, wait! I swear, I’ll change! I’m begging you, please, don‘ t
- go.
I stopped, looking over my shoulder at him one last time. His face was twisted in anguish, his eyes pleading with me to stay. But I had no more sympathy left to give.
“I already told you, Landon. I’m over you. And I’m never coming back.”
With that, I turned and walked away with Amir, leaving Landon standing there, broken and furious, as the distance between us grew larger. This time, I wasn’t turning back.
