Chapter 7
I couldn’t stop thinking about Callie. The way she looked at me when she said she was done, the finality in her voice–it was like a knife plunge into my heart. I thought she was just angry, maybe a little jealous, but seeing her leave with that guy, Amir…
I’d never seen her look so at peace, so determined. That should’ve been me, the one to give her peace. Instead, I was the one who broke her.
I drowned my sorrows in whiskey that night. Glass after glass, trying to numb the pain, trying to forget the look in her eyes. when she said she didn’t love me
anymore. It was my fault, and for the first time, I truly realized how much I had hurt her. She had given me everything, and I’d thrown it away.
The whiskey wasn‘ t helping, though. My thoughts kept spiraling. All I could see was Callie in that damn company, standing next

to Amir, smiling like she had finally found someone worth her time. And it wasn’t me. I slammed another glass down, the burn doing nothing to dull the ache in my chest.
“Why isn’t it working?”
I blinked, my vision blurry from the
alcohol. I wasn’t sure if I’d heard it
right, but then the voice came again, low and muttering.
“Why isn’t it working?!”
I turned my head slowly, my mind. struggling to focus. Standing in the corner of the room was Daisy. I squinted, trying to make sense of what I was seeing. She was hunched over, fiddling with something in a small vial, her face twisted in frustration.
“Daisy?” I slurred, my words sluggish. “What the hell are you doing here?”
She didn’t answer at first, too focused on whatever she was mixing. I struggled to sit up, the alcohol making my head spin.

“Daisy!” I called again, louder this time.
Her head snapped toward me, her eyes wild and dark. For a moment, I didn‘ t recognize her. She looked nothing like the sweet, innocent girl I thought I knew. There was something off, something… terrifying in her gaze.
“Why didn‘ t the potion work?” she muttered to herself, pacing back and forth.
“It should’ve worked by now. He
should’ve been mine.”
“Potion?” I echoed, trying to make sense of what she was saying. My brain was slow and sluggish, but the word sent a jolt through me. “What the hell are you talking about?”
Daisy stopped pacing, her eyes narrowing as she looked at me. “You were supposed to love me,” she hissed, her voice low and venomous. “But no matter what I did, you still wanted her. I gave you everything. I did everything right, and you still want her!”

My blood ran cold. This wasn’t the Daisy I knew. This was… someone else.
“What the hell are you talking about?” I said, trying to stand but stumbling back onto the couch, my head spinning. “What did you do?”
She laughed, but there was no humor in it.
“The potion. I put it in your drinks, in your food. You were supposed to forget about Callie, to fall in love with me. But you resisted every time! Why?”
I stared at her in shock, the pieces slowly falling into place. The strange way I’d been feeling lately, the odd moments where I couldn’t think straight. It was her! She’d been drugging me. My stomach churned at the thought.
“You‘ re insane,” I whispered, the realization hitting me like a freight train. “You‘ ve been drugging me? Trying to make me forget about Callie?”
She looked at me, her eyes narrowing. “I

did it for us. For you, Landon. Callie doesn‘ t deserve you. She never did.”
I tried to stand again, but this time, Daisy was quicker. Before I could react, she lunged at me, pushing me back onto the couch. Her hands were surprisingly strong as she pulled out a length of rope from her bag and started tying my wrists.
“What the hell are you doing?!” I shouted, struggling against her, but my body was weak from the alcohol and whatever else she had been slipping into
my system.
“You‘ re not going anywhere,” she muttered, her voice eerily calm now. “Not until you realize that you belong to me. I’ll make sure of it.”
Panic surged through me as she finished binding my wrists and ankles, effectively trapping me. “Daisy, stop! This is crazy! You‘ re out of your mind!”
But she wasn‘ t listening anymore. She

was too far gone, lost in her obsession. She locked the door to my condo, pocketed the key, and turned back to me with a twisted smile. “Don’t worry, Landon. I’ll take care of everything. You’ll see. You’ll love me soon enough.”
As she turned back to her concoction, muttering under her breath, I realized just how deep I had fallen into this nightmare. The woman I thought I could trust, the woman I’d been comforting while Callie was suffering.
She was a psychopath!
And now, I was trapped.
All I could think about was how much I had screwed up. Callie had been right all along, and I had been too blind to see it. Now, I might never get the chance to make it right.
I had to find a way out.
